A day in the Life of a Tactical Squad
or
Ryan's Step by Step guide to his CF marines

I managed to get half of my Tactical Marines done this morning; i'll post a group shot later but for now i thought it would be fun (and in case anyone was wondering) to post a quick step by step guide to how these marines have been painted.

]

1) Spraypaint Black [not shown]
2) Heavy Drybrush of 50/50 Midnight and Regal Blue [not shown]
3) Light Drybrush of Enchanted Blue [CUmulative effects of 1-3 shown in first
  picture]
4) Boltgun Metal on Bolters and other details
5) Heavy wash of Watered down Black to metallic areas; i'd also advise laying the
models on their back here so as it washes into the area where the magazine and
  bolter meet.
6) Fists and tips of missile launchers picked out in Blood Red
7) Apply Blazing Orange highlights to red, with highlights on the knuckles
8) Wash red areas with unadulterated red ink
9) Pick out Details - such as missile launcher body, and sergeants hair - in
black, highlight with watered down grey. Also the tube of the launcher is
picked out in black and then chainmail
10) Skin: Dwarf flesh, avoiding the eyes and mouth, higlighted on the ridges
with elf flesh. Bionic eyes picked out in Dark Angels and then Scorpion Green
11) Shoulder insignia; though at epic scale my freehand amounts to a white cross
   and a red blob!
12) Tadah!

Any hints and tips for the next batch do tell.

Nice command stand. I really like that Captain and Standard Bearer. Unfortunately for some retarded reason my character pack didn't come with those guys. Le lame.

Remember 'The Great Coloured Budgie Grit Experiment?' Well i thought it had failed but it does in fact seem to have paid off.
I went on a bit of a basing binge today and found that the budgie grit that i mixed with watered down chaos black and then left to dry looks pretty darn close to using chaos black once you've glued it on and then drybrushing.
Observe:

THe librarian stand (whose grass is a little messy actually) uses the coloured grit, whilst the stand on the left is drybrushed.  For the time and boredom saved i'd say it's not too bad?

Gonna put the static grass on this lot tommorow:

Looking good! The marines stand out nicely from the bases.

I have stolen your Typhoon idea and am in the process of putting them together. Interesting thing with this conversion is that I get 5 plasma cannons out of the mix. Just gave a couple to my tactical formation.

Thank you again!

PLasma cannons! Of course; great idea.  I actually used the thinner Mk1 metal speeders for the conversion but i'm sure the plastic one's look good aswell; any chance of a picture silent bob?
Try experimenting with how far forward you want the rocket pod as i found this affects the look quite a bit.

Looks great, things are racing along!  :)

I also judge the 'coloured budgie grit' a success!  :))

It's all looking great MoK. Love the HQ stand with the standard barer.

Land Raiders done.

These we're a bit of a rushed job to be fair but i also wanted to keep them simple.  I was tempted to try out Vaiish's Boltgun 'Chips' in the paintwork but none of the rest of the army have them so thought it would look out of place.  At the same time i was also tempted to add chapter markings and/or yellow/black stripes but couldn't see anywhere where i was happy for them to go.
What do people think? Ok?

Very cool. I like the guys at the hatches. Are you building to a list or are you just painting whatever you have?
