Hi

Ive been bidding for some SM-era IG plastics boxes these last few days, and have begun thinking that Im probably never going to win any of these any time soon. Or am I just too cheap?

An older box (the large original one) went for 50 pounds, and two of the smaller (they are half the size) are already before bidding has endad at around 25. I dont feel that I can justify putting higher bids than that, and even if I did Im sure that would only push prices further up (its quite obviously the same guy who is taking these boxes home - someone prepared to pay pretty much any amount).

So my question is this: what kind of price do I have to be prepared to pay to get my hands on some of these sprues? Have anyone here had experience with bidding on such boxes, or something comparable?

I only need enough for a Netepic tactical company, so one older box or 2 newer would suffice.

Why is it that they are so sought after anyway? Are the ones currently available from GW really that ugly?

EDIT: Of course if anyone here would trade or sell such a box, Id be more than interested!

Hi Bro Capt Parzval,

On eBay old IG are not cheap and it's all a matter of timing and luck or biting the bullet and paying over the odds.
I always bid the maximum I am willing to pay (including P+P costs) and I never put in my bid until the very last seconds in order to hopefully nuke the bid and win. It may be unsporting but sometimes you have to be.

Might I ask just exactly what you are looking for? I have a large stock of some things that I may part with to help a new start out. Compile your list and PM me and I'll see what I can do but no promises.

why not just throw your want/need list up here?

I have found people from this forum to be very helpful with trades and so forth.

Cheers..

Ebay does seem to become quite unreasonable at times; i saw those boxes (without bidding on them) and; yes, the price was just plain old silly!
If anything though it would be interesting to look at the difference between ebay and gw prices
I found a PDF with the contents of each box the other day and the imperial one is as such:
• 75 Imperial Guardsmen
• 20 Assault Troops with Jump Packs
• 15 Beastmen (2 styles)
• 10 Imperial Guard Bikers
• 10 Ratling Snipers
• 10 Rough Riders
• 5 Commissars
• 5 Heavy Weapons Guardsmen
• 5 Imperial Guard Gunners (for support weapons)
• 5 Imperial Guard Officers
• 5 Ogryns
• 5 Robots
• 5 Sentinels

so; say you're making guard army (let's say with an admech theme as that's what a lot of people want the old style troops for) with two boxes you can feasibly make

-30 Stands of Guardsmen (2 companies and a plattoon: 600pts)
-8 stands of assault troops (for use as stormtroopers: 200pts)
-Enough bikes to make a rough rider detachment (150pts)
-2 detachements of sentinels: (200ps)
-4 Stands of Fire support (100pts)
-3 stands of robots used as ogryns )150pts)

so that's 1400pts of core detachements with spares that you now you can sell or add to existing armies (10 ogryns,20 rough riders, 30 beastmen, 20 ratlings) If you we're to try buying that new it's gonna be £56 without the spares; though arguably you do get better models but some people really will pay an arm and a leg for those old classic models! Unfortunately though some of us just don't have that kind of cash spare :-(
Good luck in finding what you're after that man, if anyhing i hope this post has helped you see how it MIGHT be worth while forking out a bit more those OOP models; but if you're just looking for a bog standard guard army then maybe hunting some of the newer style (who i don't think are at all ugly!) down for a cheaper price.
Yrs,
R>

PS: I'm about to try winning a tryranid lot that should give me the core of a 4k army; i feel that it may hurt the wallet a little :-(

This is a good point MoK, and I realize that I need to open up my wallet somewhat, as it still is reasonable compared to buying new stuff. And Im happy Im not building a Tyranid army, those auctions does seem to get quite ugly somtimes...

Not NEED to man! I've seen some great armies done on the cheap; it just needs patience! Don't let the capitalists win  :))

There are alternatives... *whispers*

I've made good use of DRM and Brigade. And I expect Exodus and GZG too be as pleasent to work with.

Ive thought about the alternatives too... But Im too much of a 2 ed freak to use anything else, sad but true. More importantly, there are alternatives in the form of helpful people on these boards, and I think thats the really good news!  :agree:

Yes, well the balls in your court now Bro Capt Parzval. I'm just awaiting your reply to my offer. If everyone has finished trying to lure you away that is.

Just to remind you of what I offer...

I can also include Ratlings and Ogryns and maybe some robots too if you require. I hope this is of some help to you.

I would accept the Two Greater Daemons as part payment but you'll need to make an offer on the rest.

Not the robots!
They are needed to get another swedish gamer back to the table. That is, if they are imperial guard ones...

Ah, now Erik. Did you really think I would forget you now?

I think I still have a couple of million spare.
