I ordered some paints today and realized that even more paints have gone out of production than was the case last time I did. Im lucky I guess because I still have many pots left.

But i have a big problem with the inks. I often paint using standard techniques using blood red + red ink/purple ink, ultramarine + blue ink, bad moon yellow + yellow ink/orange ink, goblin green + green ink, and so on. This is of course basically the "old style" of painting, that we learned from WD in the 90s, so Im probably not alone in doing so.

It seems now that about half of these are unavailable. At the moment I have run out of yellow and orange inks (because I had bought those older useless pots in which the paint dries up after a short time).

Im sure many of you guys have had the same problem. Are there any good alternatives for these paints? Would be very thankful for any help!

Perhaps you could try a non-gw hobbystore, many of which carry a variety of modeling paints of various brands, they will likely come under different names but its a possibility none the less?

Privateer Press Paints (PPP or P3).

If mini-painting guru Mike McVey himself put these paints together, Im sold. McVey was God back in those days! :agree:

The P3 paints are the same formulation as the old, "flip-top", GW paints... it's the same manufacturer, just some of the names have changed.

If you liked "old" GW paints, you'll like these too!  It's nice to have "Armour Wash" back again!  *laugh*

I have ordered yello, green and blue inks from p3, and also found a couple of pots of bad moon yellow on ebay. Will report on my impressions of these paints when Ive tried them (unfortunatley shipping will likey take 2 weeks or so).

I've moved to using GW's 'washes' instead of inks, and quite like them.

The Land Raider in this post was painted Grey, Yellow and Metal, then washed with GW's 'Devlan Mud' :

I like the way it seeps into crevices, and dries in a gradient from light to dark.
