I need some feedback:

I've been finishing my big Nid titan. Hoever the head keeps annoying me. At first I simply used an old Bio Titan head, but that left a huge gap between the carapace and the head, which looked rather vulnerable.

I then defided to make it a bit taller by adding a symbiote to look like a brain. This bit was way to easily recognizable so after a while I added the insect eyes to each side and built it up with some greenstuff.
Problem is that it just doesn't strike me as very Nid'ish. Granted Tyranids have evolved into a myriad of forms, but there's something about the design I'm not completely happy about.

The alternative would be to add the upper part of a carnifex head. Although it definitely helps make it look more nid'ish there's also a chance it makes the entire model look more Carnifex-ish, and I've tried hard to avoid that on the rest of the model.
What do you think? Or should I simply go back to the old out of the box Hierophant head?

Or something in between? Here's just a quick photoshop to show what that might look like...

I was going to say avoid the 'fex head - carnifex bits have been seriously overused lately, and anyway your bug-eyed version looks great!

But having seen the photoshop combi version, I'd say do that. It looks very cool, but also manages to avoid looking 'fex-ish.

Whatever you do, I can't wait to see pics of the finished beast!

Regards,
Reaver

That one looks really good. Still Tyranid-like and the eyes give it the evil touch. Also remember that multiple eyes are not uncommon for Tyranids now with the Enhanced Senses head of the Carnifex.

Looking scary and very good.

I followed the 40K Hierophant head from Forge World

I cut the head off the original Hierophant head so I had the neck part, and I think I used a Tyranid Warrior's head (the one with lots of plates) and used green stuff to extend the head plating up past the neck.

The original Hierophant head does it for me WMN. How on Earth did you manage the convincing slobber around the mouth, fantastic. The eyes remind me a bit of the eyes for the Arachnids in Starship Troopers.

I may have to steal your idea. Great work.  8v)

The combined one works really well.  I would go even further and remove the teeth.

Thanks for the input guys. I've gone for the combo version. Looks a lot better than before IMO. :) Will post pics as soon as I've finished painting the last bits and bobs on the model

Why'd I have to miss the photo stage of the [project]?

That's one scary bug problem you've got, WMN!

Here's the new head. I'm actually quite pleased with how this turned out. It looks more in line with the other nid stuff, while retaining the more insectoid look of the old Bio-titans.

Now I just need to paint the front legs and some spikey bitz on the underside of the beast. Hopefully I can get it done sometime tonight.

Well I used contact glue (not sure what it is called in english: It is this slightly rubbery glue, where you add some to each surface you want to glue together. Leave to dry for a few secs and then stick together.). The nice thing about this glue is that it gets kind of "stringy" when it is half dry, so you can pull long threads of slime between the tentacles. Some caution is advised though: The glue dissolves the paint, so you need to be carefull with the application.

I suppose Hot glue would do the same trick, but it gets a bit unwieldy at this scale IMO.

Today I discovered an old pot of varnish that was half dry. I've tried to use that to make some more drool. Works pretty well though it doesn't show much on these pics. I'll experiment a bit more with it once I've finished the last painting.

OK. Here's some quick pics of the finished model. There might be a few detail to clear up when I can look at the model in the cold light of day.
Once I get some proper daylight I'll make sure to snap some better pics that show off the highlighting better.
