You're right, you can't kill a vehicle on a glance anymore.  

Too bad they dropped defensive weapons to S4 (all those heavy bolters and smart missiles are now offensive weapons and only 1 can be used on the move), and changed the skimmer moving fast rule, so that you have to move at top speed to force all hits to glance.  Vehicles now move slower, because they can't shoot much while on the move, and they are easier to destroy on a penetrating hit.  Since Skimmer tanks depended on the skimmers moving fast rule to stay alive, it's a nerf.  Add the Defensive weapons change, it's a SERIOUS nerf to skimmers.

Again, I'd like to ask CS for a statement of operational intent for the Tau army list.  Once it's written how the list author wants the list to fight, then we can tweak the units so that they work to reinforce this intent.

Add the Defensive weapons change, it's a SERIOUS nerf to skimmers.


Recall that vehicles can get 4+ cover saves for being (even slightly) occluded by intervening terrain (Or even squads) and I reckon skimmers have come out about unchanged in 5th edition.

Unless I missed it, skimmers are still always above terrain, but we're seriously digressing.

I've said my piece about the Scorpfish/Orca missile boat.  Really just don't like the concept, and feel that it's a case of some people wanting a superheavy because everyone else has them.
