Hey all,

Today I got an email from Specialist Games asking if it was okay for them to transfer my SG forum account to this forum.

I believe (though I'm not sure) that I use the same username in both places, so I was wondering how smart the account transfer is...

So, what's the situation? Can SG forum accounts be "merged" with existing Tac Comm accounts, or will they be separate accounts (effectively giving me a second account that I'd don't need)?

If old posts are moving over, I'd like for my old SG forum posts to be associated with my Tac Comm account.

I got that email too.  I didn't authorize it, since I already have an account here and I doubt the posts from the SG forums will be ported over as well as the account info.

The best part of the email message, though, was this gem:

It generated a server error when I tried to use it.

There is nothing to merge.

This forum on which we post here is the one since www.epic40k.co.uk, now called www.tacticalwargames.net and part of TacWarNet, forum name Tactical Command.

The current SG forum structure will be transferred 1:1 to a new location. I don't know where but it will not be a merge with this forum.

At least, that's what I heard.

I don't think everyone sees it that way.  Sure we loose SG's website, but the files and games are now on the main GW site and easy to find for everyone now. The effect this has had in the stores I frequent has been people asking about starting up some SG game leagues.  Unfortunately it's usually the skirmish stuff or bloodbowl (figure/bit reuse is greater with these games) and not epic. :sigh:

And then there's the stuff coming down the pipe... of which a few here know about but are being rather tight lipped. :glare:

If you're worried about file loss, grab them now, or otherwise PM me.  I've got all the files on one CD now.

Yes, I have been unusually quiet.

CS is setting it up and hosting, with several of the existing mods from the SG boards to help, but like Black Horizon said, it will be a separate board.

Ok, so the SG forum data won't be lost by the sounds of things.  Was  interrupted from heavy study mode by the SG e-mail this morning... and got an error when I tried to 'confirm the transfer'.

Looking forward to returning here and catching up in a couple of months, after my placements and exams are over. See everyone then.  :D

I believe you have it correct Javelin ... the Orwellian G/W-S/G types are trying to infiltrate here and convince us to play 40K ! :_(  The sneaky *?/%^&# !!!! Is that a pic of the new owner of G/W ?  I've never been a member of the SG Forums ... You can't talk about DRM, E/W, etc. there !  So •*!@&*^# Them !!!!

Read again, different forum, same server.

Also: this change is good for SG. The US GW site has taken SG on board.
Of course people did sent things to fanatic, something that declined sharp last years. But all games have a dedicated fanzine for that stuff.

Well, maybe 'black gobbo' could be reinvigorated with a few SG articles!

Sorry for the delay in responding to this, guys. I have been away and busy.

To clarify, the SG boards will be moved to be hosted under the same web address, administered by myself and the current SG moderators, but will remain a totally seperate set of forums.

The current situation, with different boards, usernames, passwords, etc will continue. The only difference between now, and when the move has happened, is that there will be a different address/web page to go to.

SG forum data will not be lost... unless I really screw things up!  8v) - and the aim of things is exactly to preserve the discussion and community that has been built by the current SG boards.

The short version of events is that GW policy does not support online discussions following a change in their web focus, and this is a way of keeping things going.

I am happy to answer any questions that you may have, but dont know much more than you guys regarding GW policy on SG.

Do you think you can grab the 'old' SG forum archives as well?

These were actually unearthed in the discussion between myself and GW tech, and so I do know that the data still exists. I asked Jervis and he just wanted to concentrate on one thing at a time. In addition, it is difficult enough getting the member data moved from the current, active boards!  :;):

However, I will see if I can get the old forums archive moved, without any member data.
