Hi back again.

Things have been a bit hectic since I got to Uni and still are. Just got my computer connected to the intranet (10Mbps compared to my 56kbps at home is both amazing and depressing at the same time), didn't expect it to take so long! (damn Computer Officer should get off his ****).

Anyway I'm back now but don't expect to hear too much from me as I have about 28 hrs of lectures, supervisions and practicals a week (9am start 6 days a week!) in addition to essays and assignments. That'll teach me.

Doug

I've heard of people working at a MDs and driving to another branch to get lunch usind their staff discount because the hygiene at their own is so bad!

I'm am hoping the degree will gain me a job of slightly higher status than MDs. Toilet Cleaner it is then.

Hi!

Well this is the post where I will impress upon our younger members the importance of an education.

Instead of boring you with the usual cliche, I give you ONE reason to get a good education and thus a god paying job...

...you can buy more minis with a job obtained from a good university education than you can without..

...that was enough for me!  :D

Hi!

Another word of advice, PLEASE select a major in university which leads to jobs that are in demand. A major in history, will quite instructive is not what you call a job magnet.

For those of you so inclined, being a "nurse" is in high demand in the US, with signing bonuses up to 10k and perks of the likes I have never seen.

Education AND practicality go hand in hand for a good job future.

*Xavi looks at his MA programme in politics specializing in democratization and global political economy) and his BA in economics to be sure he does not have a closed door at the end of the corridor...* Nah, I think I can pass that fence :) What you say is quite true but remember to be sure that you ALSO get something that you like. Having to spend 40 years working in a field that only interests ou mildly is some of the worst experiences I can think about. There are LOADS of well paid jobs out there that can interest a person if he searches well, so don't close your mind to different options and head for a very specific job from the start unless you have a very clear and informed view about it and are sure it will interest you. I have said. LOL

Health and a lot of sixes,

Xavi

I'm doing History at college now in the UK  :D. Kinda more of a general interest than a job prospect. I'm also doing Physics, and as you say Primarch, I may "major" in Physics at Uni, and get a decent degree!

And then a decent job!

Cheers

Chris

Actually, most people with a degree in History end up being accountants! Are you ready for that?

Hi!

This was my point. I know quite a few people who studied a field out of "interest", which on a purely academic level is great, but when they go for a job they find no use for it.

THe approach I used was major in what my future career would be, but take all my electives in stuff of my own interest. I think that way practicality and interest are served.
