Thanks for the welcome and encouragement folks!

Right, well a little more progress has been made. I finished off a devastator detatchment as well. Like the tacticals, the bases are still unfinished - I'll try and get round to that soon. So, pics:
Marines & Rhinos:

Detatchment with the Dreadnoughts:

And the army so far:

Next up I'm aiming to finish converting my first stand of jetbikes, and paint an assault detatchment. Crossed fingers the jetbikes will come out ok... my first attempt actually converting in 6mm scale...

OK, well I haven't got much more done. However, I did complete the conversion of my first stand of jetbikes. For my first foray into 6mm conversion, I think it came out... OK. My GS skills could certainly do with some improvement - which is why I tried to cover as much of it as possible up :;):  - but hopefully it will improve over the course of the rest of the unit.

From the front:

side:

and rear:

Hopefully the paint job will help cover up the less convincing parts of the conversion and they'll look the part when finished.

Great Jet Bikes ! I thought about doing the same type of conversion. It's easy and looks cool !  I was lucky that I got 5 of the old OOP metal SM1 Jet bikes, a long time ago.  But I'm tempted to do that conversion for more !

CAL001, Dwarf Supreme: Thanks. They could be better, but I'm quite pleased considering that converting at this scale is something I've never done before. Hopefully I'll improve as this project progresses.

Legion 4: Easy for you maybe!! :D I found it pretty time-consuming and fiddly myself. Ah well, I'm sure by stand number 5 it will be alot easier.

I have seen some of the old jetbikes on Ebay a few times since I started the project. I did think about getting them, but seeing as I am trying to stick to the look in the Collected Visions as much as possible I decided not to. The old jetbikes are much too small compared with the artwork versions and don't look that siimilar, whereas the old plastic bikes, with their streamlined fairing at the front, actually look pretty spot on with a bit of work.

Yes, it was easy to paint and mount my 5 old SM1 metal bikes !  :)  The old bike is actually based on the old 40k jet bike and it was pretty small. But that was way back in days of yor ... :D

OK, well I finally got my first installment of the 'Tale of 40K Painters' done. So here we go:
Assault Marines:

Land Raiders
Front:

Side:

Jetbikes:

And all together:

I still need to finish the bases, and I want to go back and tidy up one or two of the shoulderpads on the assault marines, but otherwise I'm pretty happy with them. The Land Raiders took alot of work to get the red right, both due to the extra detail and the larger flat surfaces compared to the rhinos I did before, but I got there in the end. Pretty happy with how the jetbikes came out as my first 6mm conversion, and pleased with the assault marines as well. NEXT UP (probably):Tactical Detatchment with Supreme Commander (converted Arhiman).

Really nice TRS. I especially like the jetbikes, very clever idea for a bit of converting. Now, what do you have planed for the Primarch?..

Very nice stuff! Im working on a small Sons of Horus-army with Death's Heads titans myself so this is perfect inspiration (will maybe post pictures when/if something gets finished). My plan is to use them for small marine vs marine games, maybe even using the old 1 ed rules (this is in fact the only printed rulebook I have in my possession at the moment). Again, very nice!

Cheers guys!

@Warhead - Not planning to make Magnus at this stage, a bit beyond my meager converting skills. May have a shot at it eventually if they improve enough to do him justice. I am working on my Arhiman conversion though, so expect to see him soon...

@Brother-Captain Parzval - Ooo, more epic Heresy stuff. Looking forward to see what you come up with. What colour scheme are you doing for Legio Mortis? The old version had red armour trims etc, but the Horus Heresy novels suggest that the contrasting colour is gold, which may well look nicer...

I'm planning to add some Legio Tempestor titans later on, although only loosely based on the old scheme (i.e. the blue will be solid blue without the camouflage/patterning, and I'll add some gold).

If I recall correctly there's an epic scale Magnus the Red figure available (well it's oop but I've seen it on ebay a few times). Probably not pre-heresy though...

There is indeed an old epic Magnus model - you can see him here. Unfortunately, not only do I dislike the model, it is Magnus as a Daemon Prince, and in addition looks nothing like the 'revised' look from more recent artwork - Loyalist Magnus here, Traitor Magnus here. If I did my own Magnus I would base him on the Loyalist version, but that's for the future.
