Over at Warpshadow.com someone asked about epic trygon proxies.  40K rippers were mentioned but I thought a 40K gaunt conversion would be better and said I'd turn out a quick and basic how-to article.  I'll probably follow it up with an advanced how-to, with added putty.

Then I finally discovered Warseer's Firebase mag, and I started to think of submitting the advanced version to it (might even get it done for the current week-and-a-half deadline, if I hurry).  Which got me thinking of checking here to see if it was already old hat.

It was!  Sorry to say, but I'd completely forgotten that I'd seen and complimented WMN's conversion in the Beautiful Hive Mind topic.  I blame long absences and short attention spans.  And others haven't been idle either.

With that in mind, d'you think the article would still be a good idea?  What about further nid conversion articles?  And at what kind of skill level?

Hi Vermis,

I have not been here long but for what it's worth I am always interested in new conversions. Why not show us what you've got.

Sounds like a fun article to me.

Sorry about the deadline... I've been busy with other Epic-related stuff and this one kinda crept up on me.

Hi Vermis,

Your gallery Hive Fleet Atropos is simply awesome.

40K stuff

The Orkstealers pose is so life-like, very realistic.

Your Hive Node Hormie is amazing... Great... thanks Vermis I'll be trying to paint Epic Hormigants the same now. Cheers, jeesh.

And I love the Poison Sporemite. It looks very Starship Troopers. Great idea too.

Epic Stuff

Those Rippers look way nasty. Nice one. I've been toying around with 40K adrenal glands and other bits and pieces but these look great.

The detail on the Scythed Hierodule is immense. But the thrope is insane. Really well done. So... when do you start mass producing and selling to keen yet talentless people like me?

:)) Hullo Otter.

Ta, Warhead.  'Course, mentioning the orkystealer only makes me want to brag more.  It's based on something I did long before, here.  I only recently realised that I could convert it without having to scratch-sculpt whole bits.

So... when do you start mass producing and selling to keen yet talentless people like me?

When GW isn't able to jump up and down on me. ;)

Seriously though.  With DRM proxies for the little guys and many excellent examples here of 40K conversions for the bigger 'uns, I don't know if there's much call for it (though to be frank, sometimes it looks like Bob Naismith's having a laugh or phoning it in.  I know it's only 6mm infantry, but still.  And sometimes I have this diseased notion of a scratch-sculpted epic nid army.  But I digress).

Speaking of which, I got the no-frills trygon tutorial up. ;)  The level of detail in it (or lack of) doesn't satisfy me at all and is making me twitchy, so I'm looking forward to doing something much more involved for Firebase.

Very nice Vermis,

I especially like the fact that I have to hand all the parts required.    I may be trying to spawn my own at some point.

When GW isn't able to jump up and down on me.

 HA... Yeah, they do have the high ground when it comes to legality and other technical issues, unfortunately.
