Hi,
I'm continuing to build my Ork hord, and I would really like to hear you rthoughts on what to use for fighter bombers.

The GW are the cheapest, but they are on the small side.

so I have two optionts, buy FW ones, or buy crimson skies ral partha miniatures, which looks more like the older orks planes and are more varied.

What do you think? anyone know is the crimson skies miniatures resembles the size of the FW planes?

Thanks,
Eyal.

P.S
I prefer not to mix FW and crimson skies, only buy onw brand

Javelin98 used some Crimson Skies airplanes, he posted pictures there:

There looks smaller than FW orks flyers but FW ones are really big...

Hope this will help you in your choice ;)

I prefer to use the FW one as thay in the correct size- my GW Valkyries can't load 2 soldiers on not to mention 10 but the FW can...

Personally, I don't think most of the Crimson Skies models look Orky enough, but there are a few that do.  You just have to hunt through them to find the good ones.  I'm sure you probably know, but there are two sets of CS models -  plastic clix game and traditional metal.

Another option is Irregular Miniatures Fiendish Ork Fokker, an Orky biplane.  There's only one version, but a bit of variation in paint job can go a long way in giving them a rag-tag look.  They are one of Irregular's better minis (since their quality varies quite widely).

Thanks guys :),
Neal any chance you have a link to a picture of that Fokker? couldn't find any for it..

The Crimson Skies (metal) line mostly doesn't look Orkish, but there are three or four that looks real nice, and in any case the forgeworld come only with two flavours, so I think using more than two types of minis will give the rag tag feeling of the Orkz. Need to think about it all, there is still time until I order them anyways :)..

Sorry, I don't have pics.  I don't actually own any.  I just saw pics of them that other people had done years ago.  The 6mm Yahoo Group that Maksim runs would be a good spot to check.

===

Edit:  Gear Krieg also has aircraft in 1/285.  They are much like the Crimson Skies stuff with respect to design,

===

Edit:  IIRC, A. E. Brain had a set and posted multiple pics of the Fiendish Ork Fokker.   He's been off the radar for years but I just googled and discovered he has a fairly high profile blog.

For those that remember Alan, she's Zoe now, even though the name of the blog is still "aebrain".  I'm afraid I'm clueless about the politically correct protocol.

The plastic Crimson skies planes are a better fit sizewise then the metal ones.

of course the metal ones are easier to find and order.

Thanks commisar!
I'll take it into account.
Can you tell how detailed the plastic ones are? and how they are compared to the FW size?
Thanks,
Eyal.

Yes, I remember Brain ... and his morphing to ... ah ... Zoe ... :rock: I'd like to see pics of his ... er ... her Fokker ...  Or a pic of the Irregular Orc Fokker ?   Anyway I think the C/Sky stuff is a little bigger then the metal G/W Fightas ... And as C/C said, in better scale with Epic. He's our resident Flyboy expert !  :;):  And as you know the F/W Aircraft are bigger than G/Ws. We say the G/W stuff could be piloted by 2-3 Grots ! :laugh:

Sorry for being so dense here, but are we talking transgenderification? If so, that is kind of a head-scratcher for appropriate protocol.

Yes, that's it.  His blog is all about hard-wired gender identity research.

I've known people post-transition and that's no problem because that's the only way you've ever known them, but I've never known anyone before/after.  Luckily, he's quite open about it so I'm pretty sure anyone who knew him from back in the day could just contact him and just be polite and apologize up front for any lapses.

Incidentally, he wrote an article that I still recall because I thought it was so cool.  He was working with a group designing missile defense systems and they set up a design optimization process using sexual reproduction and evolution models.  Basically, they wrote a bunch of computer model scenarios to defend against and programmed a bunch of missile systems with different attributes - "spray and pray" versus precise target acquisition, lighter projectives and volume versus lower, etc. - then ran them through the scenarios.  The ones with the best survival rates were "bred" so their traits were reinforced and the others discarded.

They also tried different combinations of sexes - mutation from a single sex, 2, 3, and I believe 4 sexes.  As it turned out, 2-sex reproduction produced the most efficient evolution.  He couldn't release any of the missile results, but he was able to write an article on the sexual reproduction model.

PS.  Sorry for the total thread hijack.
