In order to judge interest in having a possible London Tourney at my local GW, I'd like to hear what day you'd prefer (The entry fee would be higher if it's on a weekend).

1st prize - A 3700pt IG army.

- Tank Company Box
- Infantry Company Box
- Infantry Company Box
- Character Pack Blister
- Storm Troopers Blister
- Storm Troopers Blister
- Valkyries Blister
- Valkyries Blister
- Thunderbolts Blister
- Marauders Blister
- Sentinels Blister
- Vultures Blister
- Vultures Blister

2nd and 3rd place will win GW T-shirts ; Alternatively, the above could be split amongst the top three placed players.

'Best Painted Army' Prize:

- A Tank Company Box

There will be 8 spots available* if it's a traditional 1v1 tourney, or 16 spots available for a 'doubles' tourney where each player brings 1500pts and teams up with another player.

* 4 6x4 tables are available for this tourney.

Is there any may to get a happy medium? £30 for a one day tourny is just too much (I'm amased anyone has gone for it, do they know its one day only? Who voted for that!). Or would it be two days at the weekend?

I've voted weekday, but it would need to be near the end of August for me to make it and also to book tickets.

One day only, but we'd be able to have the place open late, so starting at 10-11am, and running anywhere up to quite late if nessesary (Though I don't know if it would be... perhaps that's a subject for a later vote!).

How many hours does a standard one-day three round Tourney run?

0930 Game 1
1200 Lunch
1300 Game 2
1530 Game 3
1800 Finish

Or make it 2700 point for the tournie and have two hours per game (2700 is a massive difference to 300 surprisingly).

I voted for the weekend as I work most weekdays and a slim chance of going to a £30 one day tournament is better than no chance of going to a cheaper weekday one   :vD .

I'm in the same boat as dptdexys - work on weekdays and I'm not sure I've got enough holidays left for xmas let alone a tourney that could be held on a weekend  :upside:

I have no objection to £30 entry given the excellent prizes on offer.

Yeah but high money for big prizes is unlikely to bring out the best in people.

Back to the timings, with 2700 points and 1 hour for lunch you can do the whole thing in
1000 Start
1200 Lunch
1300 Game 2
1500 Break
1515 Game 3
1715 End

And of course splitting the prizes - anyone who came first would want
- Character Pack Blister
- Storm Troopers Blister
- Storm Troopers Blister
- Valkyries Blister
- Valkyries Blister
- Sentinels Blister
- Vultures Blister
- Vultures Blister

:)

The alternative for the prizes would be to split them into smaller lots and randomly assign them to the winners.

I think 'Most Sporting' should probably be in the running for a prize too.

I voted for the weekday as it's cheaper. Plus my partner would probably prefer losing me for a weekday to losing the weekend. However, i couldn't participate in anything before november anyway.

Would Tyranids be permissible or is it GW only lists?

As I would expect to come last by some margin, I don't really have a view on how prizes are awarded!

Most likely a wide selection of army lists (Tac Comms approaved lists?).

I'm thinking that there needs to be at least 3 main prizes:

- Best tourney placing
- Best painted
- Best sportsman

So you'd be in the running for a couple of those at least!

As with others, its the weekend for me - work and holiday commitments prohibit a weekday attendence. As to the cost, I suspect that it is priced that way to encourage weekday attendance rather than anything else. I would also agree with others that it is a bit too expensive - I managed to run a two day event at £10 per head for 20 people.

I agree that the weekend price isn't ideal (I voted weekday myself!), but that's the lowest the GW manager can justify charging to have four of his 6x4 tables out of commission on one of his (Normally) busiest gaming days.

For the weekday price, yeah, I think that's just about justifying the cost of the prizes, and frankly the GW manager would really like to hold it on the same weekday (Wednesday) as the 16+ games club evening, in order to attract a few locals into starting Epic, as the tourney would be wrapping up about the same time as the games evening would be starting (And perhaps a few Epic players might stick around afterwards to game informally and impress the locals even more with their wit and charm).

So yeah, a weekday is preferred by the GW manager, despite the extra cash a weekend event would bring in, both because it would cause less disruption to the weekend events schedule, and because it would be a great showcase to help nurture a new Epic community at the store.

E&C can I suggest you get a date set for the weekday? If the manager prefers this its probably the way to go. Also if played on the game night you can have 3 games as if they overrun a bit the store will still be open!

Indeed, the store opens until 10pm on games night.

The next thing to decide on will be whether to run it as Singles (8 players) or Doubles (16 players in 8 teams)... I'll put up a vote.
