I like the list. How about adding Leman Russ tanks, as in the 40k codex? A small tank squadron of 3 tanks, or as an upgrade.

How come you've decided against being able to take land raiders by themselves?

Anyone tried the list? Against what and what is your verdict?

Once again, i like the list, and looking forward trying it..

I always thought of the Space Wolves as hordish assault troops lacking in a bit of tech, well with Leman Russ's. Using Imperial Crusiers with their legion adn having some very large companies. Why not give them an Imperial Guard style pick format? Also shouldn't Grey Hunters be bigger not smaller than tactical formations?

An idea to include Leman Russ is, since they use Exterminators, have them replace Hunters. Speed 25cm, Save 4+RA, 3 heavy bolter, twin AA mount autocannon 30cm AP4+/AT5+/AA6+

I can do a quick sample list to show you the structure I mean if you want.

Also as the termies can't teleport why not use the 13th company in that capacity (with infiltrate possibly). Then stick them in an Eye of Terror supplement!

Of Space Wolf fans (you filthy mongrels) could just go on without him since community efforts are always better than single ones.

The_Real_Chris: Wouldn't that make them very vulnerable to air attacks? Mind you, i have never played with aa attacks. Havent really played alot with EA, but would love to give the SW a spin (to kick some chaos a...)

Why would there be a need for 4 unit formations, why not just use 6 as the standard list?

I really liked the Scouts.

But they definetly need the Exterminator.

The Exterminator is Raiders is
AV move 20cm, Armor 4+ CC6+ FF3+
Twin autocannon 45cm AP4+/AT5+
Lascannon 45cm AT5+
2x Heavy Bolters 30cm AP5+
Reinforced armor

Since there's no model I suspect its a conversion pic Moscovian used.

But from a look at the 40k models there's no way its an AA mount.

In 40k its a second rate AA piece used by armoured units that lack Hydra. Can quote the bit from IA if you want :) I think it even gets used by Dan Abnet to shoot down a Chaos fighter bomber, but then again I'm sure his characters can do anything :)
Oh as for model I use an open topped LR turret with a simple guns swap. To make a wolf one I would stick a MK6 marine in the turret to distinguish it.

I don't know if anyone is still interested in this list's development, or if it is continuing on this thread but, I hope to be testing it soon.
Not sure what my results will really be worth though as I'm pretty new to Epic.

As for my take on the list as far as fluff, etc. here goes,
Adding the option of Leman Russ Exterminators, either as a stand alone formation (like predators, etc) or as a formation upgrade (like vindicators) adds a nice bit of character and helps differentiate them from Codex forces, the stats for them are a bit tricky as I'm not quite sure how to represent the /very/ limited AA capability that the Exterminator is described as having in 40K.

I agree with the earlier comment about the size of Grey hunter detatchments, I think they should be as large if not larger than a codex Tactical formation.

More thoughts, if anyone cares, in a week or two once I've managed to get a test game or two in.

Looking forward seeing the result of the test Krieger. I hope I will be able to play a few games myself in the near future, as the winter season is upon us here in Norway.

Okay so the one test game I've managed to have may not be the best test since it was against a rather nasty Eldar list. Here are my thoughts anyway.

1. Again, the small size of the Grey Hunter packs seems a bit small. They can't take anywhere near the casualties of a Tactical Marine detachment and lack the heavy weapons of a Tactical detatchment. They end up being rather slow assault marine detachment or they get used as a way to get more AA Hunters or similar upgrades.
-Either Blood Claws or Grey Hunters need to get larger.

2. The limited number of Missile Launchers and similar heavy weapons is an issue, characterful but problematic. Not sure if there is good way to address this one.

3. As with most lists drawn purely from Astartes units (ie no Titans or Navy units) There is a lack of units which can take on most War Engines. This is particularly an issue against Eldar because of their Skimmer rules which makes all assaults against them FF only. Again, this is an issue common to all types of Marines.

This is interesting, I have a friend who's a rabid Space Wolf fan and might just get into Epic if I can nudge him well enough.

That all makes sense looking at the list.  I also agree that from the background perspective, the Grey Hunter formations need to be larger (possibly others as well).

The lower proportion of weapons, emphasis on CC and slow formation speed means (like so many SM variant lists) the obvious optimal strategy is air assault.  A Grey Hunter formation with 4 units, a Wolf Priest, a Venerable Dread and a regular dread (to help soak AT hits) would be a pretty nasty Thawk load - 5x CC3+, 2x CC3+MW, CC4+, CC4+MW, 2x Inspiring - for a pretty reasonable 375 points.

They might work as a ground force using a swarm of fast attack Bloodclaw units, but compared to a Codex list they would be lacking formations for bulk and base of fire.

Russ as independent formations or as close support would help out with the lack of infantry heavy weapons, but independent formations would be most effective.  If included, should they also be part of the allowed load for Landing Craft?

I'd really like to see a Space Wolves list work.
