In the novel Double Eagle the Chaos aircrafts usually attack in hordes.
The Imperial aircrafts seem to shoot down more Chaos aircrafts than the other way round.
And for fighting mentality: Imperial aircrafts usually have ejector seats, Chaos aircrafts don't have such devices.

As I have stated in a previous discussion, Double Eagle is modelled, in part, on the Battle of Britain, or rather the 1940´s british propaganda version of events.

The casuality numbers given in DE should therefore be handled with care.

Ok got hold of Aeronautica Imperialis.
So the differences beween the Thunderbolt and Hell Blade are:

We have to take AI stats with a bit of a grain of salt as they clearly are different than the 40K stats (especially in terms of weapon load) but they are a handy reference for things like manoeuvrability.

Skimmed the weapon loads of the various aircrafts in AI. I see nothing wrong with them other the fact that weapons which have the same fire arc are grouped together.
For example the Hell Blade and Thunderbolt don't have two Twin Autocannons they have a single Quad Autocannon (plus the Thunderbolts's additiona lweapons).
But because these weapons are mounted in fixed mounts it is logical that each barrel of the Autocannons would hit/fire at the same target.

The original versions of these aircraft had the AI wepaon loads until there were enough complaints to get me to change them

Part of the problem is that I have four sources of stats and three different sets of stats for the aircraft :-) FW is nothing if not imaginative :-)

Obliterators:
Yes, it's another MW. As I said before, most of these stats are "what I think they should be" without game balance considered. That said, it's a CCMW, most formations have these already, as long as they're pointed correctly it should be okay. It certainly would make them an attractive unit to attach to a formation - except that they can't be transported and therefore their combat ability is going to be of limited use in most cases unless the enemy chooses to be within assault range (or assaults you). The only formation capable of Teleporting already has CCMW on every unit, and with a better CC value.

So no, on paper I really don't think it'll be a major issue.

Defiler:
The 20cm move is certainly an issue, but with a 40cm assault range, it might be worth it even in a fast assault formation. That said, my original idea was to give it a 25cm speed, and lose the Infiltrate.

I think with this stats the Obliterators should have only 2 shots.
The Stalker is nice but a flat out 2 shots or 2 shots with AT6+/AA6+ would be better.
Defiler is good expect that the Twin Heavy Flamer needs Ignore Cover.
I like the Desecrator :)

I'm starting to come around to Chris' suggestion of making it 3 or 4 AA6+ shots to represent its erratic targetting systems.

Why does it need to be erratic?

Because that's the fluff I made up about it? There had to be some backstory why Imperials don't use them anymore.

Besides, it differentiates it somewhat from other AA. 2x5+ just makes it a poor mans hydra. While 4x6+ has the same number of average hits, it should have a bigger spread of results (a higher probability of missing altogether, but the potential for really spectacular displays.)

It should be noted that the D3xAA5+ does this better, but the D3 seems rather unpopular.

4x AT/AA 6+ is better on Sustain against AVs than a Hydra by a fair margin.

Its total lack of AP might make up for some of this.

EDIT: I retract my complaint about Obliterators, I forgot they don't get Rhinos, and when with Chosen they're actually worse in CC than their cohorts.
