Could you cast them in clear resin and then use a green LED so that its glowing inside? ( like otterman was suggesting on his other thread? )

Why spray it if it's to be cast?

Won't that just reduce the final quality?

Painting a model makes it much easier to see the problems that you have, notice areas that need filling and cleaning etc. . .
The reduction in final quality is so minimal it really isn't going to matter. The layer of spray is less than 0.05mm thick!

This is something that I've been planning on doing since I began making monoliths last year. I'm going to use green gel-coat (Fibre glass GRP top-layer resin) then clearcast inside that with the LED mounted within and a battery hollow in the base.

I like to think so, I've already noticed a number of things that need sorting, there is kind of a "fence" just above the bottom sticky out corner bits, and the plates that slot in above the transport swirly thing and the circle vent on the back are wonky, they need the edges filling.

We're talking errors of 0.2mm here aren't we?  :))

Maybe as much as 0.5mm - unforgivable really.

You know, it's all well and good to make fun of .2mm errors until one of them hits you in the eye. :oo:

But seriously folks, I'm currently quizzing AcuCast about why my .2mm rivets didn't print, so it's easy for me to empathize with Jonluke.

Yes, a LED inside would look great.
Why not just use clear casting resin for the entire model and just place an LED inside before the resin sets?  It worked well for me with my fire prism:

Keep the pics comming!

That's a cool fire prism, but the clear-cast stuff usually picks up a bit less detail and tends towards the softer end of the castable resins, hence the GRP which is immensely tough and I do have a habit of dropping things, usually dice, but sometimes my precious little projects too.
