I really don't think they need anything different. That sort of micromanagement is inappropriate at this scale. Otherwise we might as well start picking what heavy weapons each base of marines is carrying.

I guess the real reason infantry has only a generic weapon is that it is hard to spot the difference from a short distance, eg a gamer from the table edge :D

But the difference between a determined Deathwing Terminator Detachment and a crazed Khorne Berzerker Retinue deserves a difference on an Epic level.

Yes it does, and that difference is represented in their differing close combat stats.

With the exeption that the Deathwing Terminators would retreat from a hopeless situation (unles the death is worth it eg facing a Fallen) while the Khorne Berzerkers would fight until death regardless of the situation.

Yes youcould mimic this withthe current Fearless rules:
Deathwing would use the withdrawal move after a lost assault while Berzerker wpold stay where they are regardless if the next round of assault would certainly whipe the Berzerkers out.

Bu thtis would be a fluff based concious decision of the player.
A player who doesn't care about the fluff and only wants to win would withdraw the Berzerkers perhabs.

I only really skimmed this thread, but some points (some of which are reiterated).

In 40K, Fearless troops can be suppressed. I've known Khorne bezerkers be pinned down in cover as the controlling player just can't afford to move them out of cover for fear of being destroyed. While this isn't a 40K mechanic - bezerkers cannot be broken or pinned, it is a real phenomenon - especially for the assault-orientated bezerkers.

I think there is a need for a lesser type of Fearless for some lists to prevent all-Fearless lists. I called it stubborn.

But other than that I think Fearless is Fearless. If there's no distinction between Bezerker Fearless and Deathwing Fearless (and personally, I'd rate the latter "more Fearless" anyway) in 40K then we certainly don't need a distinction in Epic!

As an aside I wouldn't mind playing a few games with alternate infantry weapons so long as they were equally good.

Heavy Bolter's need not apply unless they improve FF somehow since they are in all ways worse than Autocannons, but Lascannons have a use, especially against treadheads.

More poignantly I do feel there's a need to break up Fearless, and it's always bugged me that Fearless makes you flatout immune to hackdowns. Its probably the worst part of the game for me.

I won't play against all Fearless armies anymore, they are just too irritating.

Just for Black Legion. Fearless seems to be changing now BL so they take hack down hits in 40k (from a podcast).

Fearless did allow hack-down hits in 40k all the time. But Fearless troops aren't in fear (no pun intended) to be completely run down on the retreat because they never retreat.

Bump!

Anyone else have more fearless ideas or have we reached a consensus that no one told me of?
