If you wanted to get all hard sci-fi for a moment you could say that the Demiurge are/were Squats that used forbidden genetic engineering techniques to adapt themselves to a life in space and thus broke away from the mainstream Squat worlds.

Provide a sort of continuity to the two races although it sure wouldn't be anything remotely approaching GW approved canon.

I really wish everyone contributing to this thead would actually read the material I wrote...

The prejudice being leveled and the blind adherence to a background that GW has not developed for their own concept of the Demiurg is painfully disheartening.

Ummm... I actually did read it but just thought I'd try and tie it a bit more to the existing background epilgrim.

Hence the comment about a Squat variant race rather than an entirely genetically engineered new one.

If all your looking for is blanket approval of your existing work than as L4 would say do whatever works for you. You don't need our approval in that sense.

Your getting feedback that you specifically asked for otherwise.

Pardon for misunderstanding.

Thanks for reading it.

Yep, that's the way it should be across the board. Always do what works for you.  My Khazari will probably added to my Squat Forces. Like I said, distant kin like the Vulcans and Romulans. Now if that does not work for someone.  That's O.K. too ... no one should tell you how to play your game.

Okay, I admit that I hadn't read the Demiurg fluff, but Now I have. I still don't like the idea that they are genetically engineered. What's wrong with them being a separate, like fantasy Dwarfs, that just happen to be suited for high gravity planets?

Because a high gravity world wouldn't make humans shorter, it would just make them live shorter lives.  Impact on the cardiovascular system would be brutal in the long haul not to mention the body's other systems (skeletal, nervous, digestive). I don't think there would be anyone left to breed to be honest.

The idea of somebody being genetically enhanced to live in a high gravity world makes a heck of a lot of sense.

And yes they'd have to be human (or started out as human) to have all the Imperial technology.  If they were a separate race the Imperium would have wiped them out long before the Tyranids. :alien:

I love the fiction ePilgrim wrote - I just want him to change the name.

Dwarf Supreme,

Thanks for giving a read. I'll be bringing them to CT for the tourney, so you can see how they play.

As far as I'm aware, the GW studio specifically shot down the idea that Squats and Demiurg are related when the Demiurg were created... that's good enough for me to say that the Squats and the Demiurg are two entirely seperate races.

I'm with Mosc on this, love the concept behind the list, but if the name change is all that is needed, then let's get a different name...

Another one who has missed the point of the thread.

E&C, that is the sound of the topic whooshing over your head. :p

* It could be a post-modern thing ; They refer to themselves as Dwarfs, which they know are fictional, due to their self-awareness of the fact that they have a strong resemblence to the fantasy dwarf archetype... little do they know that they're also fictional! :D

Having had 2 classes now that focused on modernism/postmodernism, I can only say...

Bwahahaha!

Recursion... metafiction... very pomo.  Nicely done.

I finally read the thread and after I got done with it, I just have one thing to say...

Who do I see about getting my time back?

Demiurg may be the new space dwarves, but beyond that the Demiurg and Squats are completely different fictional constructs.  There's no need to reconcile them or merge anything about them any more than there's some sort of imperative to merge Geoffrey of Monmouth's and Tennyson's respective versions of King Arthur.

And here is a post that goes completely over my head.

Okay.  For the folks who were able to understand what I was trying to accomplish thanks for the input.

Everyone else... Go away.
