Hey folks. Read a couple of interesting things about buildings that I wanted to ask about. Here goes...

The rules state:

Resistant To Damage: If you aim at a building (as opposed to units inside), you automatically hit. However, most weapons can?t hurt buildings ? only artillery and weapons listed as ?Damages Buildings? or ?Destroys Buildings? will force an Armor Save. Buildings cannot be engaged in Close Combat. If you want to destroy a lot of buildings, use Engineers.

Medusa Heavy Howitzer: This is a large, direct-fire gun used to destroy fortified positions or engage heavily armoured targets. The ammunition is designed to penetrate fortifications and has a ?6 TSM against structures.

With a 5+ to hit but this should be automatic against buildings.

The rules also state:

Instead of a fixed To-Hit value, artillery units combine their fire to become more effective. All fire from an artillery detachment must be concentrated into one
barrage template unless stated otherwise.

The medusa doesnt fire barrage, it fires a direct beam.

Does this all put together that 3 medusas can hit 3 different buildings automatic with -6 on the buildings save.

This to me seems slightly overpowered. What do you folks think?

Note: It can not shoot indirect though I guess.

/Peter

Yes that's exactly what they can do.

They do only have 75cm range and weak armour.  Also if there are no troops in nearby buildings, then their firepower isn't great.  So they have to move slowly into range of a building worth destroying, hope not to get killed in the meantime, but are then devastating.  I guess it's optional for good reason.

200pts too little? Probably a bit.  They might just be one of those excellent-looking, but constant disappointments- like Vindicators, and the Spanish football team.

Excuse me- it doesn't actually say destroys or damages building, but with -6 I assumed that it was Destroys.

'Damaged' would make sense given that it's not a area effect weapon- only damaging part of the building at any one time.  It which case it seems nicely costed to me.

Hey Loofy. I did the same as you, assumed  that they would destroy buildings. You caught it before me so my hat is off to you.  :;):

Soo, at 200 pts they might be okay. If all 3 of them are alive a seperate targeted building doesnt have a good chance to survive though. 3 Saves at -6 makes the save 10+. Try to make 2 of those. ;)

Well well, not very useful against troops but against buildings they sure do wonders. Ive never really tried them but they seem interesting to me atleast.

Hopefully the swedish fotball team will do well in the weeks to come. Atleast better than the spanish.  :p

/Peter

[trying not to ask if that's a bald spot, or dandruff] Nice to get something right :D  Thanks!  i keep making silly mistakes in other threads.  :;):

The Medusa model looks really nice as well... so stop reminding me, I'm short of cash!  :glare:

Swedish heh?  Well you already beat us English, so I don't see why not.  It's got to be Spain's year.. surely...  ???

EDIT:  oh, hang on.. I did make a mistake in this thread as well.. anyway.. :-p

Getting slightly off topic here but I was saddened by the English demise. Games between our countries are allways interesting...

We're not dead :(  Just  having a break, that's all! Swedish games were good, nice and open- similar styles.

Ok, you've convinced me, I'll support Sweden for this year.. until next time..
.. and maybe Spain, or Portugal if they they play in a fun way this time.

Off-topic, off-board more like  :)  Anyway, doesn't seem like anyone else is bothered by Medusa's.

Not since they were toned down from 100cm monsters....I had a lot of problems with them then :).  I think the IG have a lot of better choices really, and anytime an IG player is spending points on detachments rather than companies is good too!
