As per orders, a thread for discussion of my two Cadian lists.

My plan is to include them in the upcoming "Black Crusade" supplement that focuses on Chaos and the forces that oppose it.

I've included two "variations" of the Cadian army to show them on different attack/defense footings, but using the same pool of units.

Looking forward to discussion/playtesting!

I'll probably playtest the Defense Force list as I have a cadian army painted up.

Nope, at least not yet.

My idea was that it's something similar to the Normandy beach defenses... if you get behind them, they're a lot more vulnerable to attack.

And yeah, IMHO you should bring a tank formation into the Defense List, then drop/rename the 'shock' list, as Cadians don't use mechanised armies.

It's notable that Cadian mechanised armies form ~6% of the Cadian armies mentioned on that page.

~67% of armies on that page are 'shock troop' armies however (What you call Defense Force lists).

Actually, the Defense Force list more represents the "Interior Guard" of Cadia than a 'Shock Troop' army.

But it'll be under consideration.

1. It's Kasrkin not Karskin :)

2. Scrap the Shock Troops army list. Focus on the Defence Force and rename it Shock Troops. For now the Shock Troops list looks like the Steel Legion army list plus Stormtroopers Company and Conscripts.

3. Both the Cadians and Steel Legion use Conscripts. In your list they are regular Infantry units but the formation has Initiative 3+. In my list this is the same but i have Consctip unit son their own which have no shooting attack and  FF6+.
We should aggree on similar stats if we both use the same unit.

I would agree that the Defense Force is the much more interesting list. The Shock Troops list is just too similar to the steel legion list to be worth playing.

Psykers definately shouldn't be random. It's a nightmare from a WYSIWYG point of view, and it doesn't scale for larger games. Fix it at 1 per 1000 points.

I think conscripts probably deserve their own stats.

I like both lists and we've used both here a few times.
I actually went out and found a building that I could use as a Bastion (JRM 10mm building - pics coming soon).

If the Shock Troop list is similar to the Steel Legion one then couldn't it be said that the Defence list is similar to the Krieg one? I'm not worried about it and I like both lists. Minimal new units but both lists still have character.

Nah, the 'defense list' has some definite unique features, and a different feel to the Krieg list (If Barans are low-tech siege, and Krieg medium-tech siege, the cadians are high-tech siege).

Minor question: why no Capitol Imperialis? I know Jervis had planned the Cap Imp to be part of the Cadian list all those years ago.
