I'd prefer the minor and style changes be incoporated into NetEA steel legion, new and variant units can go in new and variant lists

Well it?s late, traffic is slow, maybe a vote? :)

It would be I guess

a) All the tourni changes, plus style changes

b) Plus Armageddon Sentinels and FW Shadowswords

c) Bigger changes - top of my head drop manticores, bombards, demolishers, roughriders, ogryns, infantry companies, Vanquisher, add hive militia (init 3+, consist of 2-4 fire support and say 12 or so infantry with heavy stubber 1 per 2 stands, maybe fire support could carry lascannon?), Arm. Medusa (company upgrade), Tank Destroyers (replace 1-3 LR maybe?), Thunderers (so assault guns and similar as per mech infantry), FW Vanquisher (swap ?em because), CI/Leviathan (bit like BL's isn't it :) )

c) would pretty much make my list redundant :D Or you want to do a joint project with me as we do with the Salamanders ;)

But to your question: The Rulebook armylistis basically a Tithed Regiment. Thjatsa Armageddon Steel Legion PDF which was transported off planet to join a campaign and because of this got acsess to Ogryns, Rough Riders, Voss Prime Pattern Sentinels etc.
Then the 3rd War for Armageddon broke out and this regiment was ordered back to protect its homeworld.

So i would say: Option a)

Optrion c) is really a variant army list and has nothing to do with changing the rulebook Imperial Guard army list.

Most new, or non 40k players will be looking for the Steel Legion as the default IG, just cos it's in the original EA rules. They won't be looking for big changes to it either.

If you're going to make a 'proper' Steel Legion just put a note at the top (and on the download page), making it very clear what & where the new default IG list is.  And make  the the mildly modified version of the original EA list into a new default IG list.

For the last time! :) The default steel legion list is the one in the rulebook with three changes. The Baneblade, the Deathstrike and the Marauder.

The question is here is how different this steel legion/brass legion/london legion whatever will be. The default list is the above. The question is should we have another near identical list or a more different one.

Personally I think we should have option b) as one list and option c) (if BL can be toned down it would be his list) as another list. Giving essentially three Steel Legion lists, all called different names of course. The tourni one, the more completely changed tourni one and the 'real' steel legion one. Not many differences between them, but thats all right (indeed of the three the first may be the most powerful as it doesn't have the other downgrades!).

I don't think three army lists are nessesary.

A better solution would be :


List 1 - Tournament-balanced 'rulebook' list.

List 2 - 'True' Steel Legion list. *


There's no need for a list that sits mid-way between the two, IMHO.



* BL's list could make a good basis, if it is focused more on balance than mirroring 40k-specific rules (Which are not particularly balanced in the first place!).

I second E&Cs statement. b) really isn't nessecary.
And apart fromthe Ork-Hunter thing my list doesn't mirror Wh40k rules as priority. The priority is based on fluff and regimental organisation of the IG.

I agree with the minimalist changes to the tournament list. I would be happy to comment on a separate "Club" list with wider admendments to the current.
