What did Fanatic Online actually give to its games by way of support?

Also, the Andy H says this'll be the last update to the SG website, not that it'll be pulled down entirely. I think it's quite possible that the SG site will remain as an archive for quite a few years, with a link to Epic Raiders on page one the entire time. :D

It gave new players a chance to find rules for unoffical armies and gaming artlces that were linked to from the official games workshop site.

He says the forums are moving to a new URL. To me that suggests the SG site won't be there for much longer.

Hehe. The prices is definitely a mix up: I get the prices in Danish Kroner. An Eldar Warhost is 20 Kr for example or roughly ?2 :D :D :D If that is the price change then I can live with it :p :D

CS can you archive the sg site?

If asked, I am more than happy to do so. However, I am unable to 'archive' content without GWs approval, and - perhaps significantly - although I have been asked to help out with the forum move, I have not been asked to get involved with site content beyond this.

The SG boards will be moved, and that is all. The same software is being used meaning that accounts will be moved intact and all posts, threads, content, etc will also move across... if all goes well!

There is the possibility to work closer with WikiWikiWar and arrange our own, definitive fan content, I guess.

Regarind other poeple hosting the stuff from the SG vault:

There may be some legal issues: By submitting fan based articles to SG for them to upload you effectively give GW the IP rights to your work. This means that you may not reproduce the matieral on other sites - even if you originally made it. This means that tachnically fan made lists hosted on a private server would be very bit as illegal as if someone hosted the core rulebook or Swordwind. Werther GW would actually react if someone was to upload the stuff is another matter though :)

And they found the SG site how?

Through a tiny little link in the bottom corner of the page?

Seriously, newbie players have no idea the SG site even exists until someone other than GW tells them... the SG forum in total seems less active than just this Epic-focused forum is these days.

He says the forums are moving to a new URL. To me that suggests the SG site won't be there for much longer.

Perhaps so, but I'd prefer proper exposure for the SG systems ("Hey look the SG rules are downloadable for free!") to an archive of increasingly (If understandably) half-hearted Fanatic Online articles.

In recent months its mostly just been collections of links to external fanzines in any case, most of the articles themselves dried up a while ago.

Someone should tell that to Archive.Org, which has the main GW website (As well as Armageddon3 and much of the SG website) archived going ten years back or more.

They don't have most of the SG articles though.

No, through a link at the top, center of the main page:

That tiny thing?

Pathetic form of 'support' if you ask me...

Order as much as you can now!

Do you have a link to that site - I'm stuck with the UK one.

And if we order at that price does GW have to honour it?

Anyway - and this is probably as much a reason for my instinctive optimistic reaction regarding this announcement - whatever happens to rules support it's pretty clear that the Specialist Games ranges are not in imminent danger of demise.  That was what some were fearing a year ago.

Certainly not. :)

A price displayed on a website is legally 'an invitation to treat' rather than a contract which is closed when you accept.

The contract is closed when GW accepts your proffered payment, not when you accept to pay.
