i just saw episode 1 to 3 of starwars and realised that the Republic Gunship is a nearly exact copy of the thunderhawk design wise is it just me or is this the best copy case ever

Is that the one that is vaguely reminiscent of a Russian Hind 'copter?

Personally I think it is GW who might have made a few copyright violations over the years :;):

Armageddon Pattern Sentinel :AT-ST
FW Chaos aircraft : Tie-Interceptors

These are the most obvious but there's a few more if I remember correctly (And that's without counting non-George Lucas stuff like Aliens or Terminator... :p)

Only part that reminds me of a T-hawk here is the wing tip mounted sponsons like on the SG model. The rest is more of the Hind choper look mentioned earlier. In fact I thought the FW Valkyrie was more of a ripoff of this design. ... But I still have a dream of using Exodis WArs Legionares and FW Valkyries painted up as Clone Troopers :D

The Valkyrie is a modified version of the Vulture... which is in turn a very angular riff on the Harrier Jump Jet. :)

Certainly :) The concept is really cool so it is hardly surprising that various designers have adapted it :D

I had the 'misfortune' of having watched 'We were soldiers' about a week before Episode 2, and some of the vintage footage looked EXACTLY like the motions of the Republic gunships.  It looks more like a cross between a Huey slick and a Hind to me, anyway!

Mmmm... I rarely have fictional weapon avarice, but I really want the ball-turret from the gunship. I have a similar desire for Tetsuo's laser cannon (from the movie Akira).

That sounded weird. Better invite Yen over.
