Quite massive. | Thats what I recall from "Inquisitor" as well.
The Astronomican is transmitted from that region and the palace is pretty much adjacent to the whole Administratum complex
Like much of the GW fluff, its enough to tantalise you without being too speciifc.
The Portent 40k Background Forum is a good place to ring up qns like this- there are fluff masters supreme lurking in there!

Hi!
I was trying to remember the source, thanks for reminding me.
I guess it makes sense to make it under a mountain, easier to defend from orbital bombardment.

Yes, I'm sure in the early fluff it said it was in the Himalayas, too. I'm not so sure about those places in the UK though !?

Some intersting little tidbits;
-From "Inquisitor/Draco" by Ian Watson:
"The stronghold of the Adeptus Astronomica was inside the mountain range known as the Himalyas. One whole mountain was sculpted into the upper half of a sphere of rock that housed the Astronomican." |
"All of Earth's continents--save for the south polar icelands, deep under which the inquisition lurked--were clad, often kilometres high, in the labyrinthine sprawl of one edifice of state or another. Palace, ecclesiarchy... Huge bureaucracies, virtually worlds unto themselves." |
"If viewed from low orbit through the foul atmosphere, the continent-spanning palce was a concatenation of copulating, jewel-studded tortoise shells erupting into ornate monoliths, pyrimids, and ziggurats kilometres high, pocked by landing pads, prickling with masts of antennae and weapons batteries."
-Basically, the whole place is very, very big!! This also seems to explain the bit about the Himalyas...
Also, I took a look at the new 40k rulebook- there is a picture of 'Ancient Terra' on pg 102...
From this it would appear that the Ecclesiarchal Palace covers some of the central South Pacific, and maybe small bits of Anatarctica and South America, and the Imperial Primus Palace (presumably where the throne room, etc are..) is situated on the opposite side of the world, around Europe, the UK etc...
Hope that helped and proved interesting! ?
