The other reason was because people give a crap about current Wh40k developement :D

This is my main reason for being against it. None of my Titans have weapons glued in place. So, I'm not concerned with not being able to use old versions.

Well i`m a fluff junkie and Wh40k dictates fluff. And if the WH40k rules say something about availability of some wargear for a certain troop or vehicle type, etc then it is also valid for the fluff.

For example: I never ever would develop stats for a Land Raider with Missile Launchers in the sponsons it there isn't mentioned as a valid unit in the Space Marine Codex in past or future editions.

And to be honest "I ignore Wh40k developement" is a rather....questionable reason to deny a new proposal.
Despite being rules wise an inferior game WH40k has some good ideas.

Fact is, if GW were to put out a Titan game tomorrow, it would have those weapon restrictions ; As far as GW is concerned, those restrictions are now canon.

The problem is that their weapons are only good for tactical warlords (ie a warlord with mainly mid range general weapons and one or two specialised weapons).

They do not cover weapons for siege, anti titan, or long range support.

Simple solution:

Anti-Titan: use a Nightgaunt or Vandal
Long-Range and/or Siege: use a Nemesis or Goth

In general, I would like to see a system like this for titans.  Maybe it's because my first 'stompy robot' game was battletech, followed by Heavy Gear, but I think this proposal could work.  I'd need to dig out my HG1 book for the design rules, and HGBlitz for the conversion, but it shouldn't be too hard to get a rough approximation for point values.

I don't really have anything better to do right now except study for a Math 143 final, so I should be able to get something going in a bit.

NealHunt - "I don't think the 40K restrictions are appropriate in this case."

E&C - "Neither do I, but I thought it best to get the vote out of the way."

Quote from restrictions to Warlords thread.

It really would seem appropriate to honour the vote I linked to (18 to 7 is a VERY clear response) and develop the list we already have. Keep it simple...

I'm not deliberatley trying to cause friction, just trying to keep things simple whilst the list is being developed.
Is it really necessary to have 4 different variants of Warlord?

If all these variants, classes etc are important to some then maybe a seperate list can be developed later to satisfy the GW fluff fans?

I am a GW fluff fan! :D

However, I echo your concern that simplicity and elegance must rule wherever possible.

This thread is undoubtedly useful for brainstorming however.

G/W can bugger Off !!!  I still use most of my Titans based on the AT1 cards with upgrades according to CT ... As well as cards and data from the W/Ds of  those early days of Epic.  :D  Very old school !

To be honest I would not alter the chassis this way. maximum would be a shield generator instead of a weapon or something like this. All other things get to complicated. Alter the speed and shield may look funny but adds not that much to the list. The Titan list is playable (quite good amount of nbalance) and I think E&C did quite a very good job with the list. If we begin adding chassis types we are in the beginning again (and we already had two unsuccessful tries).

just my 0,0002 cent.

An other idea:

Just say that the Carapace Weapons are optional and no Titan is forced to fill them with weapons and you can have all variants without altering the speed and/or number of Void Shields :)
And if you put one of the bigger weapons (50pts and more) in the Carapace Weapon Mounts you have a Nemesis/Goth :)

But who wouldn't put free weapons in the carapace mounts?

Increase the cost of all Weapons by +5 to +25pts (all by the same number. The values here are only examples for the points range i'm thinking of) and decrease the cost of all Titan chassis by the same amount per Carapace Mount.
