My opinion is none of the above. I dont think that Sci_fi Commander will spell the death of Epic, but I also dont see it currently growing in support. Right now, GW dont need any help to kill the game.
I dont think that any single system will divert a huge number of players away from Epic (which is different from non-scifi wargamers picking up SFC). Look at it this way, there was a long period between second and third edition, and between third and fourth edition. And, in this time, people kept a flame going - although there was not the competition that currently exists.
I dont really see why any new game has to stop you playing an old one. The fact is that no other 6mm game has the backing or (limited) miniatures of the 40K universe, and that will always carry some weight.
I personally have always been in favour of bigger dice. Though for me the D12 is king due to 12 being a better number to work with than 10!_________________
