I did see a three-up green of a Genestealer and thought it might be a work in progress from the Tyranid Codex days and then left as it was decided to retain the old (Space Hulk era) model.

However according to Portent in the 40K seminar it looks like there will be a new Genestealer for 40K 4th Edition.

Tyranids are having a codex re-vamp next year. The E:A 'Nids were re-worked into the epic schedule to coincide with the launch of the new range in 40K * yes, there are new 40K genestealers (at last!)

Mmm.. interesting, the Genestealers have to be some of the oldest models that are still pretty much unchanged, along with SM Terminators..

You mean like this one:

I have the large picture too, but I think that the claws look way too big.

Sure, like that was ever going to work. I dont think even GW want to stop photos leaking out, it is great advertising for them. Even now, the web is full of forums with comments such as 'I cant wait for ..., I am going to get loads'.

I am the "I don't like them" dude, then :) I prefer the old models. Those look too bulky to me. More in line with the current tyranid range, but not very good in looks to me. the other look more like sleek hunters to me.

Regards,

Xavi

My opinions are mixed right now. I dont like the pictures, but the 3 Up green looks pretty cool (I am sure that I have one of the original metal Stealers that looks very similar). In the picture, the claws look way too big, and I stand by the original fluff of the Stealers being secret in communities rather than open killers. The original metal minis had that look that has not been captured since.

Well, I for one would like to see new Genestealer models.  The old ones were fine for their time, but they are getting to look cheesy.  It is funny how nice the old ones were compared to the Terminators that came in the Space Hulk box set.

There was a discussion on which armies would be included in the next 40k box set in the WPS forum, and I argued that it the Tyranids would be included.  Some wanted the Tau or the Hrud, but I don't think that will happen.  I think the Space Marines will still be included, so it'll be a SM vs Tyranid match-up.  Why?

Well, the Tau, Necrons, Daemon Hunters, and Chaos are all relatively new, and could go one for the next few years with the same models they have now.  The Dark Eldar were included last time and people can't make up their minds if they like them or not.  The IG just got the Cadians so they are set for awhile too.  The Eldar would be interesting, but they still have some of the finest models around, and lots in metal.  I would love to see the Orks redone cause I can't stand them now, and if they brought back the focus on the clans it could be killer, not to mention bring back the classic Imperium vs Ork match up, but even their model line is not really in a rush to be redone, just the codex.  So. . . that leaves the Tyranids.

New Genestealer models, maybe even a new Termagant sprue would be nice, and add a Hive Tyrant as an HQ and you have a nice little starter army.  And I am sure the starter set will be $100.

I really think the Space Marines are excellent as they are, but they always get redone for each box set, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a new Tactical Squad.

I can't see GW just taking existing sprues and putting them in a new box set, which is why they will have to introduce a new army, or go back and redo an existing one.  I like Skaven, but I don't know how I feel about them in 40k.  I think Space Marines vs Tyranids would creat quite a stir, as well as give new players two completely different armies to toy with. . . And of course, even if we see the Demiurg, I'll be pissed if I get them in my box set.

Also, take an inventory of what comes in the Battleforce army box sets for 40k, like the $90-100 price range.  I didn't just the basic math one day to figure out what was the best buy in terms of points and this is what I found:

Space Marines 446
Eldar             460
Tau             507
Necrons             570
Dark Eldar 370   (not so good...)
Orks             402
Tyranids             608

I know I am leaving some out, but it looks like you get more bang for you buck with the Tyranids, who I think came with 16 Termagants, 16 Hormogants, 12 Genestealers, 3 Warrors, and 3 Ripper swarms.  It is quite a lot of plastic and a fairly large army in point costs compared to the others.  If you stuck half of that in the starter set it would still be pretty sizable.  Does this make sense?  :l

you see this is why GW can never please everyone

personally I think the clan concept is awful and very cheesy and somewhat cartoonish

I know that a lot of people will disagree with this, but I do hope that GW never revert back to the clans...

You're right, you can never please everyone. I liked the Clans, they gave the Orks a bit of variety and character!

The model seems to be more in-line with the new 'Nids, but really I don't see any need for them to be re-done. Hey, the big, bad bugs already had a re-vamp in the last 2 or 3 years, didn't they?

And I like the old model. It did already look cool enough. I think they got a single re-make from the times fo Space Hulk 1st ed, tho. With not many changes, if any at all. The new one looks too sleek. And definitely it has too many spines on the back.

My vote for the second army in the boxed set is simple. Necrons. It might be Tau, but I'm more for Necrons. A set of Warriors and a Destroyer.
Who does not agree can bite my Gauss Cannon.

I would like to see Orks back in the starter set.  Complete with a revamp of some of the more hideous cartoony vehicles.

I would like to see Orks go to the 'Mad Max' style that they are almost at.  I want their vehicles to look ramshackle and rusted, weapons to be poorly maintained and no clown colours in their outfits.

I dont think Tyranids need a revamp.  The model range is fine (I even get by with the genestealers, and dont mind the fact that they are old) and the book reasonable.

In need of revamps is the Eldar and Marine codices.  The Orks would be nice, but there isn't many things wrong with it.

I don't play 40K (the rules are a bit puerile, IMO ! :D) but from an Epic standpoint I'd like to see Necron and Tau long before the 3-4 year mark that was mentioned on another post.  And I like the Mad Max look for the Orks.  I always believed that that is one of the things that inspired them.  My 2 cents, for what it's worth ...    :;):

Hi!

I'm of mixed feelings with the concepts of clans for the orks. I think by theold fluff it would be reasonable to expect the orks to be very "clannish" in nature since everything revolves around those Ork who have accumulated power and resouces, thus forming a clan.

What I find "dumb" are the silly names the clans were given which definitely fosters a cartoon-like atmosphere, I mean come on, wierdboys dressed in baffon costumes anyone?

The concepts is good, but the implementation of it wasn't very "serious".
