OK. I hate committing to a colour scheme. For my Bugs, if you cast your minds back, I intended to go with blue/grey for the main parts, with black/red for the carapace and claws. (Incidently, I looked at the new Terracotta paint and it is not what I need. The old Terracotta was a great solid dark red, the new is a brick brown colour.)
But, looking at the fabulous Harridan on the Dropship site makes me wonder if these colours will scale up to the larger beasties. I am not sure. Any comments?
Thanks.

Thanks. | I've gone with a dark (catachan to camo) green carapace scheme, with bone bones (duh!) and red "soft bits" (gums, underside of torso, venom cannon sacks) on my new harridan. I've completed a step by step painting guide & submitted it to epic40k.com / incoming.
I can email you a couple of pics if you want. It was relatively quick & simple due to lack of time & so it made writing (& reading!) the article easier but I think it looks very effective none the less.
Most of my other Nids were similar to carl's in red and bone, but I fancied something different and think I'll stick with the new scheme.

Thanks for your views guys. I just hate this stage, when I have the idea for a colour scheme, but have not committed to it yet and I am worried that it will just look dumb in the end.
Also, I really just want to do a seeding swarm army, and the likelyhood of actually including anything bigger than a Lictor or Hive Tyrant is really small.
Tuff, I would love to see a few pictures for inspiration. I was all set with my scheme, until I saw just how good the Dropship Harridan was. Now, I dont want the same colours, but I dont think that scheme that I have would look anywhere near as good at that scale.
I will need to look at the minis again and bring out some sample colours. The only trouble is that I have already base coated a load of Termagaunts in blue!
Any ideas for potential colour schemes?

I was thinking of a scheme of blue-black with tan highlights. My thought was to spray Ultramarine blue as the basecoat, then glaze completely with black ink, leaving a darker blue with black shading. Then, go back and drybrush tan and ivory on various bitz.

I'm still not sure of a color combination for my Bugs, too ?! Yellow/Orange/Black has some appeal like in Starship Troopers. I was thinking black drybrushed steel like the xenomorphs in "Alien(s)" for the infantry ?

The best solution is to pump out test pieces until you get what you want.
Many of my nids are assembled, primed, and base-coated with bleached bone.
I'm experimenting with different colour combos until I find one I like.

Hi!
I took the easy way out (as usual), when Tyranids came out they had these color inserts in the blister with the painted model. I just used those color schemes.
Hormagaunt: Blood red and bone white for the chitinous areas Genestealers: Purple and dark blue with bone what for claws. Hive warriors, a red-orange color with dark red and bilious green for the weapon, bone white for the swords.

I like the idea of orange and black, but I am bad at orange. I always find that there are some colours that just simply seem to work for me better than others. Right now, I am considering purple and grey, which should look quite good at both the Gaunt level and the titan level. But orange and black... sounds interesting...
I also try to make the main colours of each Epic army different from any other that I collect. So, my Eldar are green, my Genestealer Cult will be blue/grey, my Marines dark blue...

I've played with a Panzer Yellow/yellow ochre, washed with orange ink, then dry brushed a lighter shade of yellow ...

Hi!
I think it is important to give your army a distinct visual appeal. Orks are green with the clan color, marine armor, chaos with bronze, blood red and bone white, eldar with bright colors.
Orange and black may sound odd, but they may also give a distinct alien feel. Unfortunately only trial and error may give you the right answer.

Dammit. I was quite happy with purple/dark grey, until orange/black was mentioned... I am not sure that I could be bothered to get an even coat of orange on every mini. Perhaps a couple of tests is in order.

I think that we have discovered a glitch in the Matrix! The rest of this thread exists here:
Ummm huh?
But this does not exist in OUR reality. I will look into this as soon as I have the time.
EDIT: OK, it seems that the board was missing the second page link at the bottom. This seems to have been sorted out. Let me know if there are any problems. Back to the bugs...

I saw that too, but when I made a "dummy" post, it appeared ! A quantum singularity causing a rent in the time/space continuum ? Ahh, probably just a server problem !
