Arthur C Clarke dies
This is extremely sad news, particularly for me. I grew up on his stories, and there was a time when I read almost exclusively him and Isaac Asimov - which contributed vastly to my love of science fiction, leading to wargames, and my current career.
I would put Arthur C Clarke in an exclusive group of two hugely influential writers of all time, the other being H G Wells.
He will be sorely missed.
RIP.

Agreed, he was a good and interesting writer. Read a few books of him.

Loved his short stories, The Nine Billion Names of God in particular.

What a loss (although I don't believe he wrote anything recently). He really helped shape science fiction and science fact for everyone.

Quite apart from his stories, which were grand, there was also his determination of the concept of geostationary orbit for satellites, which is also sometimes called Clarke orbit.

That is sad news, although he did live a long life. Sci-fi has lost a giant, on doubt about it.

Moscovian, I read a new book by him fairly recently, last few years. He made it to the grand old age of 90, though, so he had a good innings.
