Aw, man, that Armorcast stuff makes my bank account sad. Don't they know I'm bidding on an OOP dropship?

Think of it this way, if you don't win the dropship, you can buy stuff from Armorcast instead.

I don't know if Armorcast still makes a lot of their terrain pieces any more ?! :(

Actually the "new" Armorcast is producing most of the terrain pieces that were available before the "old" Armorcast was bought out.  The link I posted earlier is to the current Armorcast product list and store.

Armorcast makes all the Terrain it used to.  The company changed hands, that's all.

However, there 1/60th scale BattleTech mechs are no longer around because their license expired.  It's too bad to, I was looking forward to seeing the Storm Crow that they had plans for.

is it possible to get a close up shot of the imperial warlord, i can see it in the background and it looks similar to an idea i want to try...

I didn't have any pics of it from the game, but I got the Warlord out and snapped a couple. ?It's nothing fancy, I picked it up used and pre-painted at Gen Con many years ago and haven't repainted it yet. ?Looks like they were going for the Death's Head Legion color scheme.

If there is something specific about it you are looking for that isn't shown in the pic let me know.

I finally got around to making some swamp/marsh pieces that I?ve wanted to add to my Epic terrain for a while. ?

One of the main roadblocks was coming up with the right product to use for the water. ?I had made some 40K scale water pieces with resin previously and the mixture must not have been quite right because it never completely set. ?It also shrunk and pulled back from the edges, plus the whole house smelled like toxic resin.

I talked to some people who had used the GW water effects and that didn?t sound like the best option either. ?From what I heard and saw it stays a bit soft and can end up with a lot of dings and gouges.

One of the guys who made terrain for the local store suggested using the pour on finish that is used for coating bar tops. ?The product is Envirotex Lite, pour-on High Gloss Finish. ?I got it at Michaels, I believe they sell it at Home Depot as well. It does require mixing, as there is a resin and a hardener, but it?s friendlier to work with than straight epoxy resin and there is virtually no smell. ?It also has a nice long work time, unlike the resin I used previously that started to harden up quickly. ?

For the swamp pieces I didn?t want them to just look like a murky lake, with the water contained by the banks around the edges. ?I wanted them to look more like a boggy, water logged area with dry high ground and low water filled areas all mixed together. ?

All in all they weren?t too hard to make. ?The base is 1/8? hardboard with beveled edges. ?For the high ground I used small clumps of DAS air-dry clay. ?I wanted there to be some larger boulders scattered around, and for these I smashed up some lava rock and pressed some into the clay before it dried. ?Other pieces of lava rock I liquid nailed onto the hardboard.

Once the clay was dry, I coated everything with wood glue and sprinkled sand and clumps of (clean) kitty litter over everything. ?After it initially dried, ?I firmed that up with some more watered down wood glue and then got to painting. ?I wanted a dark earth color so after spray priming it black, I based it with Scorched brown, highlighted with Dark Flesh, Bestial Brown, Boubonic Brown. ?The larger rocks were painted with a mixture of browns and grays. ?After painting I added patches of static grass.

Then it was time to add the Envirotex Lite. ?I mixed it carefully and added a drop of Camo Green and Bestial Brown to give it a slight tint, then proceeded to pour. ?One thing about not having banks around the entire piece is that I had to watch each piece closely and clean up any drips that started going over the edges of the pieces. ?I was a little nervous at first because it took a while for it to set up and not keep trying to drip off the edges. ?But it did set up nicely to a hard, glossy surface.

I?m happy with the way they turned out and they look nice on the table top. ?Here are some pictures of the completed pieces with figures for scale.

Another shot
Game board set up with swamps.

And as planned, they also work perfectly for 40K and pretty much anything else as I tried not to put anything on them that would tie them to a specific scale.

thanks for the warlord pics. im mainly intrested in trying to find a camo pattern that fits the older style artwork that was on the old Adeptus Titanicus game. by the looks of it a green/tan would work pretty well...

thanks again, and keep up the great terrain :D

Finally took some pics of a terrain project I finished up earlier this year, an elevated pipeline for use with both 40K and Epic. ?I can see these massive pipelines being constructed by the Imperium to assist in the transportation of material as they plunder a planet of its natural resources. ?Fighting for control of these resources provides a good background story for games. ?

The pumping station structures are made of PVC electrical gang boxes with the nailing tabs removed and sanded smooth. ?DIY stores have these in various shapes and sizes and they are cheap. ?The pipe runs are PVC tubing and elbows, also nice and cheap. ?For extra details on the pumping stations I used various bits I?ve picked up or saved for terrain building, including disposable razor blade caps, contact lens cases, a computer fan, sprue for pipes, concrete anchors and the usual plasticard bits.

To make it as modular as possible for storage and transport, the pipe sections are not permanently attached to the pumping stations. ?For set up, each pipe is separate and fits into the PVC elbows that are fixed to the top of the pumping stations. ?Or the pumping stations can be used with out the pipes attached and the PVC elbows on top look like huge vents.
