I'll be posting some pics of my fleet as I slowly paint it.

Here are some of my ships currently:

Vanguard - Gothic Class cruiser.

Currently my most sucessful ship in a campaign I'm running. It has scored 38 hits on enemy vessels so far in this campaign, and has won the following upgrades:

- +1 Ld when burning retros or going to a new heading
- No speed reduction for moving through BM's
- 1 Ld cheeck passed automatically per game
- +2D6 when on All Ahead Full
- +1 Turret

I'll get another upgrade roll for it when (if) it reaches 40 hits scored too! (We get to roll upgrades when we get the following numbers of hits: 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 80, 100, 120, etc until 200... I think my Vanguard is the highest scoring ship so far though as everyone's ships keep dying before getting a chance to disengage!)

She was also recently outfitted with new torpedos (Vortex Torpedos!).

Vengance - Dominator class cruiser

This ship is pretty new, it's only scored two damaging hits so far.

I had another Dominator class ship earlier in the campaign, but it was destroyed whilst trying to manuever away from a surprise attack on one of my worlds, and it took me a while before I was flush enough to buy a new ship.

Triumph - Dauntless class light cruiser

A nifty ship which has scored ten damaging hits.

It has +1 combat resolution in boarding actions due to having a space marine squad stationed aboard, and it has better engines that let it turn after only moving 5cm!

She's a lucky ship.

Turbulent - Dauntless class light cruiser

The Triumph's sister ship is newly commissioned (Her previous sister ship was lost in action in the last game I played), and has fought no battles as yet.

Looks good. Lucky ship that Gothic. Nice approach on using hits to gain upgrades.

Yeah we're not using the 'renown' system at all.

Upgrades are based on:

- Damaging hits (It has to be directly-caused damage, critical hit extra damage doesn't count, and nor does destroying ordinance markers.)

- After the game any ships which were not crippled take a leadership test, and if failed may also take an upgrade.

Upgrades may consist of:
- Increase ld. by 1.
- Roll on the refits table.
- Roll on the crew skills table.
- Roll on applicable race-specific table (Like space marine appeals, etc).

Each planet type in your empire generates some points after each game:

- Agri World (Food +2)
- Mining World (Points +100, Food -1)
- Forgeworld (Points +50, Food -1)
- Civilised world (Points +50)

If you don't have enough food, your planets won't produce points.

Additionally each world type is allowed to build certain types of ship / space stations etc (Only Forgeworlds can build and repair the really big stuff)

That way, with actual points floating about, we can discard the (We feel silly) renown system, and simply pay for new ships / ship repairs.

Any ships that are destroyed are striken from your fleet list, so you don't just get free replacements as with the rulebook's campaign rules.

I think you should write that system into an article. I've seen more variants. This seems a nice one.

I'll probably publish this system in the next issue of firebase... it's working well so far, we're about 10 games into the campaign on average, with five players (Two Imperials, one Chaos, one Tau, one Eldar Pirate fleet).

And yeah, my Gothic is a very lucky ship. :)

I'm quite happy with how I removed the torpedo tubes from the Dominator, as that class of ship isn't supposed to have torpedos.

My fleet currently in the campaign:

Armageddon Sector Fleet List:
2x Strike Cruisers
1x Battle Barge
2x Dauntless Light Cruisers
1x Gothic Cruiser
1x Escort Carrier (The Capio Quinque, as seen in the last issue of Firebase)

Reserve ships from Gothic sector list:
1x Dominator Cruiser

Also, Many Defense Monitors, orbital defense guns, orbital docks (For repairs), and several space stations (For bigger repairs, docks and space stations generate repair points in my campaign system, so once you invest in a few stations you get your ships repaired for free). These assets can't attack other systems though, they're assigned to specific systems in my empire (I have 7 systems currently, located adjacent to the Tau player).

I also have 4 Cobras, 3 Swords, an emperor battleship, and another strike cruiser, but they're not currently in my fleet list (They all used to be but they were destroyed, except the Emperor which I've never purchased).

Your fleet list is illegal.

The Armageddon list feautures no Dauntless light cruisers and no Dominator cruisers.

Yet it does feauture a Gothic in the list.

lol really?

Lucky I only just purchased the Dauntlesses for my last two games!

Looks like I'll have to sell my Dauntlesses and swap them for crummy Endeavours (I had an Endeavour for my first six of so games and it was terrible!). :(

The Gothic and Dominator I had mixed around, the Dominator is the reserve ship.

*Embarks on a cunning plan to purchase five 'ghost' Endeavors plus one strike cruiser, in order to make the list legal*

Honestly, Endeavours are awful! :D

Love the ships and the campaign system.

I tried writing a similar system in which you needed agri planets to feed the other, but ended getting lost in the details, and the build phase became to complicated (It tried to include shipping routes and whatnot).  I even went as far as allowing you to purchase naval academies to get better Ld on new ships.
