Rag, I got 500pts of uncommon broods in a 3000pt, and I could have put another 2 broods worth in if I had really wanted too but I just didn't have the points. It doesn't seem that bad. Why wouldn't you want to go to battle with 48 stands of guants and gargoyles.

I just like my big boys.

In my upcoming 4000pt game I have spent 975 pts on uncommon and 1250pts on common.  However I have 8 uncommon broods (3 fex cxlusters, a pair of hierodule, a tyrgon and 2 zoanthrope clusters), but only 12 common clusters.

Keeping to the one for two would of ment spending more on independant creatures.  Since I already have 48 stands of common, and don't have enough warriors to look after them all.

I playtested a game with a 1:1 common/uncommon ratio the other day.

Worked nicely.

1 Common brood to 1 Uncommon brood?  Or 1 point of Common to 1 point of Uncommon.

I still think it would be simpler to break the uncommon broods up like they were before.  Everything works out to round numbers and the flexibility would be more like the Orks army list, which I think would be better suited to the 'nids.

I agree and thats how it is in the Markonz variant ...

Really? Downloads own list  :D

I see this:
"Any number Common Broods may be purchased, and you may purchase one Uncommon Brood per 2 Common Broods."

However, in an earlier version my group were playing 1 for 1 on uncommons, commons, and i think that worked well.

As to numbers in broods, I'm now quite partial to the set brood sizes because it allows easier points calculation - and also balancing of those units. Eg forcing purchase of 3 Dactylis in one brood, and not allowing these to be split between swarms prevents easy min-maxing of this unit type.

Okay I;ve just gone and dug out the list I downloaded and used in my battle against Orkybob. Its the "Markconz Variant 7.12.29"; it states

"..you may purchase one Uncommon Brood per Common Brood".

The current version (on the same link) does indeed say one per two but this version is 8.01.09.

So sometime between the 29th of December and the 8th of January you amended this part of the pdf.

I would change it back to 1 per 1 if I were you.

I'll put some more feedback on the list on the batrep thread.
