For a change I played in a WFB doubles tournament this weekend.

Here's my small mortal chaos force (much of it 1980's era figures):

Main point of this post though... I thought this themed New Zealand 'were-sheep' army was worth sharing.  :)

Based off the movie Black Sheep.  To explain the sheep thing... NZ is a country with 40 million sheep and only 4 million people, hence sheep seem to be everywhere, plus they were the main export for ages. Haven't actually seen the movie myself, but apparently the special effects are by Weta Workshop (did effects for LOTR trilogy, King Kong etc).

Yes those are were-sheep driving the tractors (counting as chariots...).  Flags from right are the traditional and official flag, and the also popular Silver Fern flag and Maori flag.

Hey just found out I won! (I left as soon as I finished my last game to get work for the week out of the way).

My prizes were a Foundation paint set (18 paints) and a copy of the new mighty empires! Sweet :)  They'll be good for epic at least! :)

Wow - lovely stuff, Markco - and those sheep are classic. But that old-style Chaos army is lovely. Can we have close-ups please?

By the way, what do the kiwis in the sheep army represent?

That is the funniest theme army I have seen.

The other army is really nice as well.

Congratulations on the win!!!

Cheers guys :)

V - figs all packed away but will take some more pics next time I get a chance :)
Got some 1980's GW Runequest Beastmen I'm adding next - which are the one non-epic painting item on my list for the year. Actually I lie I also have another Ancients army (using the Zveda, Miniart, Caeser, Revell etc plastic ranges) lined up.

Oh and the person was counting the kiwis as furies...  what could be more unnatural than a flying kiwi right?   :)

Thank you Markco. And the 'flying' kiwi idea is fantastic! :) :) :) :)

Humor aside I would be a little dissapointed if I entered a tournament and had to face that army. Just isn't warhammer.
It's like somone showing up with perfectly pianted pine cones and saying it's a camoflaged wood elf army.
heck even an all metallic arme would be better IMHO.

As GW actually say - the hobby is what you make of it! :)

There are different standards of tournaments here, eg ones where only explicitly GW figures are allowed. So I guess if this sort of thing bothered you that's not a problem, you just wouldn't enter such a tournament. Still 24 people entered so popular enough for one of the smaller local tournis. It's more relaxed and such individual creativity tends to be appreciated. Many of us have been around for many years, and the same old warhammer armies can get a bit dull.

Also technically the warhammer background is such a hodgepodge of so many different background sources, and so changeable, that almost any weirdness is fine by me. Remember you even used to be able to get 40k weapons in Fantasy as chaos gifts, consider lists from citadel journal and white dwarf like zombie pirates and dinosaurs, or steam tanks, gyrocopters, clockwork horses etc. I mean really the background is just a big mishmash of strangeness that makes no real sense...

Note my own army is mainly empire figures (though with lots of conversions), just because I didn't want to do yet another barbarian clone army. Back in the day, Chaos cults in the empire was what the Chaos fluff was all about, so that's what I based my army around.  Plus I wanted to use lots of crazed villagers :)

As for bare metal figures, absolutely no way!  :D  Might as well use counters in my opinion.
