I would like to restart some discussion on Epic again. Here's a list comparing some different small scale sci fi wargames, please post input opinions etc. Will update this list with new games as well. Post details of the games I don't have listed yet, as well as what you like, don't like and a good explanation.

Epic40k
Pros: Variety of armies with differing combat tactics & styles. A  tactical game with positioning, co-ordinating, and maneuvering formations to achieve objectives and wins, not just lining up and blasting each other. .

Cons:

Epic Armegeddon
Pros: Variety of armies with differing combat tactics & styles. Variety of armies with differing combat tactics & styles. A  tactical game with positioning, co-ordinating, and maneuvering formations to achieve objectives and wins, not just lining up and blasting each other.

Cons:

Mechwarrior
Pros: Fast and flexible gameplay. Easy to learn, and fast playing rules even with large armies.

Cons: Not enough detail in the rules. Units cannot be customized, nor can they be designed from scratch as in Battletech.

Classic Battletech
Pros: Highly complex and detailed rules. High variety of configuration and endless design options keeps it infinitely playable.

Cons: Too much dice rolling. Dice rolling outcomes many times override importance of tactical decisions. Slow gameplay, very slow with more then two players. Tedious recordkeeping sheets.

Dirtside
Pros: Very customizable ruleset, can use almost any 6-10mm sci fi to modern minis.

Cons:

Heavy Gear
Pros:

Cons:

Considering this is in the Epic 40k sub-forum, it's probably Epic 40k...  :D

I *would* recommend putting Epic:Armageddon into the comparisons as well.

I'll definitely add Epic Arm. to the comparison, but I need you're guys input as I'm just starting with the original EPic game, and can't compare Epic 40k with Epic A. yet.
I'll also add Dirtside to the comparison, as I have the rules, but haven't played it yet.

I haven't played it either, but I've heard good things about Dirtside.

Epic Armegeddon
Pros: Variety of armies with differing combat tactics & styles. Detailed 40k rules converted to 6mm scale. Faster playing version of 40k ruleset.

Cons: Ambiguity inherent on the 40k rule set.

In all honesty, EPIC (probably both version, but especially EPIC:A) have nothing in common with the 40k ruleset, other than the names of units.

EPIC:A is far more a very tactical game with positioning, co-ordinating, and maneuvering formations to achieve objectives and wins, not just lining up and blasting each other.

Ah some good info on Epic. ?With you're permission Chroma, I'll use you're exact description of Epic and add anything new later.

Also, how much dice rolling is there in the versions of Epic compared to Battletech? ?How much do the dice determine tactical outcomes as opposed to strategy, maneuvering, and planning?

"Mechwarrior

There is a degree of customisation available with the pilots and gear cards for the mechs.  Not the same as building from scratch but the scope for customisation provided by these is quite large.
