I had a thought the other day about having a different sort of army composition for titan legion, form the normal core and support route that most other armies have.

The idea stemmed from the mental image for a titan battle group moving like a naval battle group, with the big ships in the center (Imperators and warlords) with a defensive ring of smaller ships (reavers) foinally an outer picket ring of light ships (warhounds, tech guard and knights).

So a battle group with more warlords would by default have access to more warhounds and reavers, you wouldn't have a single warlord and 10 hounds for example.

As such I thoguht that there could be caps on units dependant on the number of warlods in the list.  someting like:

0-2 Reavers
0-3 warhounds
0-2 other units

For every warlord in the army you may have an additional Reaver, warhound and other unit.

So if you have 3 warlords the limits would be

0-5 Reavers
0-6 warhounds
0-5 other units

That's a very interesting approach. ragnarok!

I'm going to see if I can incorporate that into my White Knights design.

The exact number will need to be adjusted.

Ie

0-1 Revaers 0-2 warhounds and 0-1 other formartions as a base, forcing the use of Warlords.

The use of Warlords shouldn't be forced.

If warlords aren't being taken, it's because they're underpowered / overpointed as compared to their battlefield utility. S'that simple.

Note that BFG has it exactly backwards from your idea, where if you want to use the (Highly desireable) Battleships, you have to take three cruisers first (Vaguely equivilent to Reaver Titans for the purposes of this comparison).

Depends on the force. Some of them are battleship-centric (Like space marines, as I recall, and Tau) while others are cruiser-centric.

I, for one, use warlords all the time. I really love having one on the field as they make a nice solid center. They're not particularly game-breakingly good, admittedly, but they're very very nice. There's nothing they're particularly bad at. The only problem they suffer from is that due to their exceptionally high price (Especially when you want to field a Supreme Commander, as they're the only thing in the list able to do so right now and that's 100 points ontop of the 850 for the titan) they tend to suffer from the 'all your eggs in one basket' bit. When one titan takes up 1/3 of your points (As the Warlord often does, or nearly so) that's a very substantial portion of your list doing its thing in one activation. Which can blow the crud out of whatever you point it at potentially, but once it's done its thing, you're out a very large portion of your list in one go for tactical flexibility.

Interesting idea, but I agree that taking Warlords shouldn't be forced. Also, you could make an argument that although this is an "ideal" army composition on paper, battlefield deployments hardly ever match the established TO&E due to attrition.

The example forcoing the use of a warlord was just a suggestion, but I think the general idea is still valid, and thanks Chroma for liking and thinking about incoperate into the white knights (though it works better if you have a modular weapons cost :) ).

Greetings ragnarok,

As large as the Imperium is...surely there have to be many variations in Titan Legion Organization.

Though somewhat standardized, every carrier task force in the U.S. Navy varries in type and number of vessels deployed.

No two have the exacty the same number of vessels..and even within a task force, the types and numbers of vessels change based on operational necessity and availability.

Your suggestion is similar, and depending on which Legion assests were available, you could have a wide variety of units showing up in your TO&E at any given time.

Unit cost may be a problem though, so it would pay to make sure that your basic "core" deployments are sound and the rest should work out fine.

Looking forward to see how your idea develops!
