They'll lose either the Fearless or the Scouts next time I revise the list.

Pleased to hear it. I haven't played the list yet, but the fearless scout combos had me a little worried just looking at them on paper...  (what's was the justification for scout on things like the knights in the first place by the way?)

I guess the same reasoning as for Vultures, for example?

For at least me, it feels suitable. No point to remove it because rules are stupid. If the combo is problematic, just change it either that a) if fearless units move when forced to retrat, they must stay out of 15cm as any other unit retreating or b) when fearless unit moves in retreat, it must keep it so that it is not in ZoC nor any unit is in its ZoC.

I'd prefer a. Simple and elegant. "When fearless unit routs, it can opt to remain at place and is not then destroyed if left within 15cm of an enemy unit. However, if it decides to retreat as any normal unit, it must end its retreat move out of 15cm range or is destroyed as any other unit."

Actually I have not seen nor used yet the fearless scout combo abuse... I just speculate the possibilities given. IMNSHO the retreat-to-block-the-royte-to-objective (no fearless needed here) move is far worse abuse and can be practisioned by all armies. In most cases, the fearless status here would not make a difference.

The big difference is that a non-fearless formation attempting this can, potentially, be wiped out by losing a clipping assault, completely removing them from contention.

A fearless. scout formation must be destroyed unit by unit to shift it.

I'm fully aware that fearless units are much much harder to wipe out.

But here  I'm referring more to third/fourth turn where activations are scarse and it does not matter if the enemy can wipe you out - they still have to spend an activation for that. It is very often seen situation that an army has say 3 activations left which can actually reach objectives and there is 3 objectives to take. By moving ANY retreating unit on the way is very often the needed trick. A sacrifice, yes, but very common.

I have seen this in almost every epic battle in one form or another.
