Hello everybody!

I have finished the 'skeletons' of the hormagaunts. The legs will probably end up in different poses to imitate running. I think the original figure was about to leap in the air, but I wasn't sure I could work it out, so my figures will be running, and that's that.

The moulds of the termagaunts are ready, and I have also managed to make one 'trial' set. Theoretically, I could make a standful of figures a day; with another mould, it would be two stands a day, and probably three moulds would be optimal (I am thinking in a 5000 points army, and I will need 30 or 40 stands of infantry for that). On the other hand, I am beginning to realize that te final army will require a LOT of Green Stuff. I am about to try and find some cheaper alternative, so the next few pictures may not show "GW-green" sculpts.

Although it is marginally out of context, I would really like to show this picture. I have read in another thread that it is slightly easier to get old Hive Tyrant models than Carnifexes because people didn' really need so many of them back then. I thought 'What the hell!', and I went to the local shop to ask if they actually had any EPIC Tyranid models left. The result is shown below. Converted to GBP, it cost me about 12 pounds because the owner just wanted to delete this item from the inventory (I could have bought about 18 Dactyles as well, and they still have a whole eldar army's worth of tanks and airplanes there). So much about buying a box of Lizardmen Skink box to convert them into Tyrants and 'Fexes. I can convert a couple of these guys.
:D

Sounds like a workable plan.

I had some time today, so I could work on the hormagaunts a bit.

Hello everybody!

I have finished one side of the hormagaunts. What I did after the previous picture was I basically put flesh on the bones of the first skeletal sculpts. I am not really satisfied with the bottom left gaunt, so if I can't resculpt its arm so that it attaches to the torso instead of the arm, I will just scrap off the whole sculpt, and make do with the other four ones. The front claw of the gaunt above the flawed one is misshapen, I know, but I have already cut it back after checking it on the picture.

Next step is the other half. I would like to give the hormagaunts a sense of movement, so I will have to adjust the legs as if they were running. I will probably show the end result, just like in the case of the termagaunts, so there won't be an update for at least a week (the figures are small, but I have to stop after every step to allow the putty to dry).

Helo everybody!

Well, it's been a while since I last had time to deal with EPIC, but today I could finally finish something. Behold the "warrior sprue", ready for an experimental casting. I had a lot of problems smoothing their heads and back carapaces with extra GS, which taught me an interesting lesson in hindsight: I should have put the head carapace on them only after I have glued the two halves together. Oh well.

You might say that I should have put together a sprue of 5, but I wouldn't put five warriors on a single stand even if I had excess original EPIC warriors. These are big guys, so there should be less of them on the stands.

Tomorrow I will put together the "termagaunt sprue" too. Actually, I may decide to wait a bit before starting any other tyranid sculpt as I have just seen Dark Realm Miniatures' new plans for an "alien" army. The first pictures of the basic infantry do not really resemble tyranids, but they are certainly of better quality than mine, so the proxy-question is about to be solved anyway.

Still sceptical about the guants, but the warriors look ace.
