My daughter has always been curious about all the Spaceships I have for Battlefleet Gothic. She even played with them a few times (seeing a 2 year old holding a Despoiler battleship is very funny).

But too save my precious painted models I gave her micromachines Star Trek models. The Enterprise D, a Klingon cruiser, a Romulan Warbird and a Cardassian cruiser plus a DS9 shuttle.
See was happy and played a lot with them.

But since last week she asked if she could play the Space game with me I always played with a friend of mine.

I explained to her that it was quite a difficult game with lots and lots of rules. But I promised her to make her an own spaceship game!

So yesterday evening I started painting squares on the backside of one of my Battlefleet Gothic gaming boards. After that I took a noteblock and started writing the rules. As easy as possible as a 3 year old could understand.

So inspired by Pirates of the Spanish Main and a little BFG I started....

Nina's Space Ship Game

Introduction
In space two space ships meet each other near a planet. Both ships want to land on that planet in order to find the great Space Treasure. But to do so they first need to chase the other ship away!

rules

- How do Space Ships fly through space?
Roll a D6 to see how many squares your ship may fly.

- When may I shoot at another Space Ship?
If your ship ends its turn next to the other Space Ship it may shoot at it.

- How do I shoot at the other Space Ship?
Roll a D6, on a 4, 5 or 6 you have scored a hit.

- When have I won the game?
If you scored 3 hits you have won the game.

- Most important rules!
Make it fun for the 3 year old. Stay innovative during the game. Have fun. Improvise when needed. Have fun.

First Test Battle

This morning my daughter and I had our first battle. She took the DS9 shuttle and I the Klingon cruiser.
After some furious and tactical movement :) both ships managed to score 2 hits on each other.

But then the shuttle made a grand manoeuvre and flew onto the planet to take the treasure!

So Nina won her first Space Ship Game!

Massive Fun!

Oddly the rules seem remarkably similar to Pirates!

What a great idea!!  BFG for kids.  Better than having to explain to a child why there seems to be a skull shape on EVERYTHING in Epic. :)

Thats fantastic blackhorizon and congrats to Nina on her win!

I play lots more wargames with my kids than anyone else, its amazing how you can generate so much fun with small set of basic rules, a d6 and bits and bobs from your collection!

That's really cool Blackhorizon, I might do something similar with 40k/Epic in the future when my 7 month-old is at an age when he's becoming interested in Daddy's toy soldiers... :;):

I always laugh at the games that the girls change my plans into.  A water balloon fight will end up with the water balloons being babies that we have to carefully look after so they don't pop!

They occasionally help out as our sergeants, rolling the dice for us, but then we end up being not allowed to roll any of the dice as they become specially treasures to be horded in a pile under the gaming table.
