MW, IC means there is no defence. Against MW you can at least hide and be harder to hit.

It's a siege gun that is supposed to annihilate cover and anything in it. Hiding in a bunker is just like painting a big target on yourself...

It's only got a 30cm range, it's on a slowish lightly armoured vehicle (Vindicator), slower tougher vehicle (Russ), or very slow very tough vehicle (Baneblade). Blow it up before it gets anywhere near you, or hide behind the bunker rather than in it, or hope it misses, or run away.   Hey - suddenly the most powerful gun in 40k is reasonable in Epic as opposed to being a complete joke. Sounds good to me.  A full vindi squad is still only going to be splatting 2 Infantry or light vehicles, or 1 heavy vehicle - to do less than that, especially against cover where it is supposed to actually have a purpose, well why should people take it again?

Wow, a Demolisher Cannon "discussion" and nobody told me about it?

I'll dispense with the detail, because nobody cares.  We're all set in our opinion and I doubt anybody is going to change their mind because of this discussion.  I'm just lobbing my opinion into the mess.

I support the idea that absolutely no change be done to the Demolisher Cannon.  The good to-hit values of the Epic Demolisher Cannon represent the area effect, concussive force, whatever found in WH40K Demolisher Cannon.  The Space Marine Vindicator needs to have its speed upped to 30cm.  The Imperial Guard Baneblade needs to have the main gun and bolter sponsoons upgraded, and the Leman Russ Demolisher is just fine.

The Imperial Guard Stormhammer will need to be tweeked to taste.  I don't know of any other vehicles mounting the weapon.

And no, I'm not concerned what the results of some poll were.

Back to job hunting...

Under my "Wh40k Weapon to Epic Weapon translatrion System" the Demolisher Cannon has the following stats:

30cm AP3+/AT4+ Lance

Note: The only weapons in Wh40k which ignore cover saves are weapons which use the Flame Template, the Hellhammer Cannon and the Bombards Siege Shells.

Without the proposed change to Demolisher Cannon I would quite simply always:
1) Take SM Predators rather than Vindicators
2) Take vanilla LR instead of LR Demolishers
3) Take Shadowswords instead of Baneblades

With Demolisher Cannon having MW stats, which fits in with its close range destructive potential, I would actually consider taking Vindicators, Demolishers or Baneblades. They actually become valid choices rather than being no-brainers.

Giving the Demolisher Cannon MW status does not create any "broken" units- it simply makes 3 underused units more playable and likely to be used. It will not cause any problems for basic rulebook SM & IG armies.

Where it could cause problems is in the IG armoured list which is being playtested. So all that needs to happen is that LR Demolishers and Thunderers need to be made rarer and harder to field en masse. But that is already being changed. So no problems there either......

I vote for the proposed MW change.
