Hi all, it's Dobbsy's opponent here.

Re the 'Chaos out of activations' in T4 comment, like Dobbsy suggested we just got carried away with the game and forgot to record my 2nd Retinue going into overwatch.

Was a fun game and the first I've played that went into a fourth turn. I think we are both still mastering the finer army tactics and strategies and learning a lot with each battle.

I made a couple of really annoying decisions I came to regret late in the game, including the last turn assault with the unsupported Deathwheel and not moving the Forlorn Hope into a position to contest the Tau take and hold objectives. That said the game was a close run affair after the early stages with several reversals of fortune. I always felt both armies had a great chance to win the game which is what you want to see. In the end it all came down to a final activation!

I felt the Tau list had come of age and had a good balanced feel to it. No formation felt overpowered. The Tau seem a good match for Chaos Marines and both armies fight in very different styles. I always felt I had to bide my time before launching lethal counterattacks after being continually outshot and outactivated.

The game has given me some food for thought re my list. I'm not too sure the Ravager is the best use of my points, perhaps because I'm still working out how to use him. Alternatively I might replace him with some bikes and tanks and see how that performs. I'm also finding the daemons difficult to master. The BL list seems easy to powergame and I will continue to resist the urge to field multiple ferals/decimators/wheels. In high numbers these units seem to overwhelm some armies abilities to destroy war engines.

Looking forward to the next game Dobbsy...

Agreed mate. That's also my view on the AMTL list. When one army can field nothing but titans and the other army only 1/3 points it's not a fair fight especially in a tournament when armies must be picked "blind". But this is all a subject for the AMTL list.... :D

I think it's more a matter of quality for points to be honest. I mean, the IG can field an entire army of Super-Heavy Tanks if they want to. Just most people don't because there are other options open which are as good (or better) for their point cost! I haven't seen AMTL be that big an issue myself, but most battle titans operate alone. 3 Deathwheels have 6 Void Shields and 12 DC between them. 50% more DC then a Warlord and just as many shields! That's a pretty nasty combo for only 825 points!

But you're right, this really isn't the best place for this discussion.

Yeah... More survivable by a fair bit, more fire-fight capacity and faster then a Warlord. Cheaper, too. The only place they really loose out (And it's only a minor amount of 'losing out' at that) is in shooting power as far as I can tell. And they'll still get 6x 75cm 4+/4+ and 12x 30cm 4+/6+!
