So, a couple of people have mentioned that they'd like to see the Void Spinner be available to Iyanden. Maybe instead give them this:

Striking Hammer

Type: WE
Speed: 25cm
Armour: 5+
CC: 6+
FF: 5+

Wepons:
Hammer of Vaul 45cm 6BP lance (This is supposed to be a BIG Tremor Cannon - lance to represent it affecting heavy targets more than light ones)

Notes: DC 3, skimmer, RA
Crit: same as other EoVs

I debated whether it should have any special weapon attributes (disrupt or ignore cove come to mind) but I wanted to make it different enough from the Void?Spinner and Cobra to make it unique. I gave it 6 BP, because I wanted one EoV to cause 2 templates, and 6BP is the same as 4BP. but gives an extra BM (a weak disrupt-like effect). Also, multiple EoVs will give the same number of templates with a 6 BP weapon as with a 4 BP weapon, only the number of extra BMs change.

The purpose of this EoV would be to help the small model-count Iyanden army deal with horde-style infantry/vehicle formations.

You do realize that three of them brought together would be 18BP Lance weapons.  That is 5 BMs without doing any damage.  What other weapons would it have or is that it?  Would it have a firing arc?  What did you have in mind for a modification?  Anything simple?

If 6BP Lance is too overpowered how about give it 2 fire modes. Indirect fire with 6 BP or direct fire with lance?

Cheers

Meh, just lose the lance then.

Or maybe reduce the range to 30cm, but that seems too low to me.

3 of these things would generate the same 18 BPs as a Manticore formation, for 750 points, at a much reduced range (and no indirect fire), firing mostly while using a double move, with no extra effects.

Looking at it from a different angle, a formation of 3 gives the same number of templates as three Void Spinners, without the disrupt or indirect fire (about 1/3 the range). Plus, Void Spinners are far more likely to actually fire in the first turn. The only upside for the Hammer is the additional automatic BMs

Is that really so unreasonable?

one weapon, Fixed forward firing arc. 6BP.

MAYBE lance, but that's it.

I figure if 45cm 6BP (no inderect fire) isn't enough for 250 points, then add lance to it.

Is there any reference to Iyanden having something like this in any of the fluff?

An armylist is defined both by what it has and by what it doesn't have, and, I at least, don't think they need a heavy artillery unit... that is one of Biel-Tan's "unique features".

I dont recall anything about Iyanden having this kind of unit. If anything, I think that they would be more likely to have Knights/bigger Wraithlord things, spirit stone crewed only.

That'd be kinda neat. Give them some kinda Super-Wraithlord... Spirit Stone crewed version of the Towering Destroyer or something. That'd be pretty wicked, and way neat.

Something like:

Super Wraithlord (Needs a new name, I'm no good with names...)
Type: War Engine. Speed: 25cm. Armor: 5+. CC: 3+. FF: 3+

Weapon/Range/Firepower/Notes
Bright Lance/30cm/AT5+/Lance
Scatter Laser/30cm/AP5+/AT5+
Wraithblades/Melee Weapon/EA +2, MW.

DC: 1
Notes: Holofield, Walker, Fearless.

With stats like that you could use the old Towering Destroyer models to represent them (It's where I got the weapon loudouts). Less armor then a standard Wraithlord, but significantly more mobile. More like small Titans, really. 'course, it's just a rough draft, but would be really neat, IMHO.

Sem, I am not against it.  I'm just pointing out 18bp is a big hit.  Of course since you came up with this idea you are required to make a cool looking model for all of us to see.

From the looks of things this wouldn't be artillery since it has no indirect fire.  I'd be curious to see it playtested.

Okay, I'm mocking up a model for this monstrosity to show everyone what I was thinking of. I'm using the current cobra model as a starting point. Basically I'm replacing the D-cannon with a large vibro cannon, which I'm making from scratch so the scaling will look right (the old titan tremor cannon doesn't match the style of the new cobra, it is way too large).

I hope it turns out like I imagine.

as for the 6BP weapon, how would you feel about knocking it down to 4BP (or 5BP)?

I think that would bring the unit a lot closer to being accepted and playtested.  I'm looking forward to seeing the model! :)

Do the army list need a new model?

Probably not, I just wanted to find an excuse for making a Vibro-cannon based EoV.

Though, given the point costs associated with Iyanden Warhosts, I figured Iyanden might need help taking on Horde armies (so the Tyranids can't just come back and finish them off).

The use of heavy vehicles also seems to fit the 'style' of Iyanden, IMHO. If you've only got a small number of living individuals the best use for them is places where two or three of them can do the job of ten or fifteen foot soldiers, right? Plus, I've always loved the image of Wraithguards marching alongside large quantities of Eldar Armor, just feels right for them to me. ^_^
