A Zoanthrope.

So, you want a comparison of the green vs. other 6mm greens I have seen? OK, you asked for it.

I would give it a B (above average), primarily due to the lack of good definition on the tiny legs.

Would I purchase it? Yes, it is definately a better representation of the Zoanthrope than the prior 6mm Zoanthrope.

Is it distinctly a Zoanthrope? Yes.

Would I change my grade? Yes, a better or worse grade will be awarded when I can see a cast version with some shading and highlighting. The different mixes of green create an artificially 'garbled' effect that is misleading; however, shadings of greenstuff are irrelevant to the true quality of a green.

What could be improved? Possibly the little legs and the lower fins. Once again, painting it would give me a better feeling for the definition.

Could I do better? Absolutely not. At best, I could cut a rectangle out of a styrene strip.

Well, here's one I cast up and painted:

It's not as good a quality as I'd like (My casting still isn't getting any better it seems, I'll never understand how guys like Otterman and Reaver produce such clean casts!), but it's 'tabletop quality' at the least.

I say it looks great. I've always said that when sculpting/building Epic models, it's the impression rahter than the idividual details that makes the difference. You don't need to make it look *exactly* like a 40K scale model, just get the important features and everyone will know exactly what it is. This Zoanthrope for example has a) a giant pulsing brain, b) bony ridges down it's back, and c) a little tail thing. Anyone can tell it's a Zoanthrope. My only *slight* critisism would be that the brain isn't pink or fleshy enough and gets a bit lost under those plates.

Great work. Keep it up!

Is it just me or is one of the Marine Dreads launching its' assault cannon barrels like a missile?

Oh yeah, Zoanthrope is ace.

It's quite good but it lost a little of the detail of the original.

Still, I'm happy enough with it to put it into production and supply my whole 'nid army with evil brain monsters. :D

No actually, that's a magnet which is buried in the display board I used for the photo.

I chopped the Dread's missile tubes off in order to make it look more like the 40k missile launcher mounting.

hehe. I already done the new style Carnifex, Hive Tyrant and Tyranid Warriors. Done the Raveners too, but not shown yet.

Evil and Chaos - Very nicely painted and I like the colour scheme. And the big brain doesnt have to be pink and fleshy. It looks nice as it is.

As for casting, you're one step better than what I can do... and I can't cast at all.

Just think of what you could do if you had a pantograph. Does Forge World have a pantograph you could borrow?

GW certainly have one... that's how they made the Epic plastics after all.

Not sure I can beg time on it though, I don't even work for the company. :D
