HammerHeads: speed unchanged at 30cm, 400 points for a formation of 6.
Probably new stats as
 RailHead - 75cm - AT3+/AP5+
 IonHead - 60cm - AT4+/AP4+

The point about the counter charge remains - how about 29cm move? :)

I'm only halfway through, but I'd just like to say that in every single game I've played I have taken a Firewarrior Cadre w/Devilfish and an Ethereal.  They always do well for me, at least as well as Infantry should.

An idea that Evil and Chaos and I have been discussing is to make FW's a engagement based formation. What I think we have about agreed on is droping Devil Fish to a 50 point upgrade for 4 because I'm not convinced 100 points is justified based on their armour save. A 5+ is not good enough for a 100point APC.  The other idea we have been talking about is droping the points of the Ethereal to 50 and removing fearless, but adding Inspiring instead. This would encourage people to use them for an engagement formation. I would keep the rest of the stats the same as I reckon they're about right as is.

While I can see sense in the "engaging FWs" idea, I doubt whether it will be accepted due to the artificial design for Tau FF/CC.

The Tau's CC stat is in no way abstracted at 6+... unless it really deserves 7+ (Which is a possibility)

Wow, I gotta say that making Fire Warriors the "fire fighting" option of the Tau army would be a great way to make them "distinct"!

Yes. Very :) However I do think they are fine.

Using them Saturday went well, though they didn't really take much incoming. But hell what would you prefer - a guard mech or a Tau mech? The Tau outcall in nearly every way. As an offensive unit they are top. I've gotten over the loss of markerlights as well as I realise they will always have a unit or two with markerlights attached.

Defensively of course they suck. But hey.

Mayhaps they should be a compulsory mechanised formation, with the unmech guys going in support? Just to ensure they are used in their best light?

I don't like forcing the use of a unit one way or the other through list design.  (Besides, you should be able to air-assault with FW in an Orca... not sure how effective it would really be, but it'd sure scare some people the first time you did it!)

To be honest, I don't think the Tau would EVER use FW without some kind of transport, whether that transport is DFish or an Orca.  even more to the point, I don't see mention of footslogging *Firewarriors* in IA3.  They were always either mechanized (carried in DFish) or delivered by Orca.

Granted, footslogging FW (in E:A) could represent those FW dropped off by Orcas pre-battle.

I was referring more to the core firewarrior unit, a footslogging one could be in support.

My personal preference is to have footslogging FW units, but for it to make sense in most situations to mount them in Df. I dont really want to force the issue of transports... although if pushed we could consider the same solution as Tactical Marines (dont need to take the transports, but they are already paid for).

IA3 did have that mining station where there was Firewarriors without transport. Sure they were eventually picked up by Orcas, but originally they didn't have transports.

Interesting that both Devilfish & Orcas cost 100pts...

I might try the Orca loaded with Firewarriors this weekend.  We've got a resurgance of Epic with 6 new players, so I forsee using my Tau a lot.
