Despite loving the 40k models and background, I've gotten sick of the rules, and various balance problems associated. I like the epic rules, and it seems to be free of uber units and balance issues.

That said - what is 'net epic', how is it different from epic armageddon?

Epic Armageddon is Epic's 4th edition.

NetEpic is a fan made development of Epic's 2nd edition (Made with permission from GW as far as I know)

Both versions of Epic have less balance problems and are more tactical than 40k, regrettably!

Welcome aboard, scratch. It's good to see another 40k player has "seen the light."  :D

E&C summed it up nicely. There have been four editions of Epic. The latest is (obviously) fourth edition. When second edition started to fall, a group of players continued playing and developing it. This became NetEpic, which is now a different set of rules from second edition (where it started) and totally different for Epic Armageddon. Both sets of rules can be downloaded for free from the web sites. The best way to think of them is two distinct games using (mostly) the same background and minis.

It's neat that an internet rule set managed to take off. I'd love that to happen to my rule set.

Checked out net epic. There's some neat stuff, but order tokens was a pain. And I really like the blast templates in Armageddon.

Which version is most common? (If you can answer that)

At tourneys - EpicA
At Primarchs house - NetEpic :)
Okay second is a joke. NetEpic is popular but has far less visible activity. It is largely a finished product. It wouldn't surprise me that if you discount those groups that play Epic frequently and go with EpicA the odd club night could well use NetEpic more often.

I've never seen NetEpic played, personally.

So for me, Epic:A is definitely more common. I think it's likely to be the more common in most Epic groups.

I've never played NetEpic but from what I hear it is not bad.  I was told it adds some depth to the game that you would not normally see in Epic: Armageddon.  EA is the most popular of the two from what I've seen and heard but that shouldn't discourage you from trying NetEpic if it suits you better.  Your best bet is to find out what other people are using and go with that.  With either system, other players are bound to be at a premium (unfortunately).
