Not everyone *wants* a hobby. Frankly I'd say less than half the people who play miniature games want to do anything other than play the game itself. And that percentage probably increases the younger they are

Now this is something that has always confused me. Why bother? If you don't want creative input, then simply computer games. From purely gaming terms, they are MUCH better than any tabletop game.

Sure people go in, and drop out again of the GW hobby. Many of my friends did when I was a kid. Some of us stay. By contrast, no one has been 'captured' by pc games to the same extent, except perhaps the MMorps.

I've seen that every Sunday at the local hobby shop's demo day and not one of those kids stays in the hobby for longer than two years. By the end of it attending is a chore for them not fun.

I'm not surprised: if they are forcedto attend. Instead of being selfish, dumping their kids, and sodding off and playing golf, the parents should engage with their own children and get involved. I know I do with my lot, and my father did with me. LoL he learned so much from us! LoL!

And once again it's not the immediate revenue loss that's the issue with PC games it's the fact that they will probably prevent more people from entering the traditional style hobby over the long run.

Every one says this - From every hobby and sport. This is Daily Mail type thinking. They imagine whole generations of (obese) children living in virtual worlds and doing nothing else.

This isn't my experience though - Most kids seem to like real life better, and treat pc games in the same way as they treat movies - temporary diversions.

And the simple fact of the matter is the comparative size of the two industries show if anything is the marginal pastime it's the traditional game industry not the computer game industry.

Nobody doubts that;

electronic games have been huge since they where invented and the business since mushroomed hugely. However, the market is totaly saturated and further massive expansion is not expected (in the west at least). Interestingly, during these years of expansion, GW mushroomed explosively too.

It's sort of like what happened to squats.. perhaps soon it will be taboo to speak about epic too....  :;):  :p

Well it'll never be taboo to speak about squats here :)

My Nids came across some Squats today... must have been an isolated pocket that wasn't wiped out by GW (oops sorry 'wasn't wiped out by tyranids').  I'm just about to do a battle report.

Anyway, we all know the squats live again now, after the great war against GW (sorry 'war against tyranids'), they just made an exodus, so to speak  :cool:

Hi!

Hehe, good one!
