Hi - I'm looking around for inspiration for my IG army and thought some of you might have some nice pics to share?

So far the nicest I've seen are on the dropship website and I found a nice pic of a Valhallan tank that won a Golden Demon in 1998 but I'd love to see some more. In particular I'd like to see infantry models...

So, anyone care to share?

Well, I care. I just finished an IG-army mostly based on the old miniatures. I wanted to have the feeling of real squads as known from 40K, so I converted some seargents and radiomen.

This seargent is based on the old IG-artilleryman. Inspired by a picture from the 40K IG-codex I gave him a lasgun leaning on the hip, (can't remember if it is a IG or a Squat lasgun I used)?

The radioman is a normal old Imperial Guardsman with a rectangular piece of plastic on the back with a guitarstring as antenna.

The seargent is based on the old IG commander where I removed the flagpole. Instead I gave him the laspistol from a beastman.

Same as before, but flagpole is replaced by a radio handpiece. The chainsword is replaced by the lastpistol from a beastman.

Ratling Snipers with a small conversion. You can cut of the weaponarm and place it as if the sniper is shooting.

I have placed the autocannons on individual bases, (old command counters). Two autocannons move together as one stand, but I think it looks better.

They look great and those conversions are superb - 6mm conversions must take lots of skill/patience - or do you have tiny tiny hands! I'd been thinking about greys for mine (although they'll be the current sculpts).

Could you give me a brief run down on the way you painted them?

All figures where primed with Chaos Black.

Hands and faces where given a light brown. Then a Bronzed Flesh. The two-color process gives the faces some depth.

The uniforms I painted first codex Grey all over and then "high-lighted" them with Fortress Grey, (so the Codex Grey remained in the deep areas). It may sound like a lot of work, but after a few figures you find a process to copy.

The black armour where very easy highligted with a black with just a little grey mixed in over the primer.

On the autocannons there is another edge-highlight of Fortrees Grey with a little white.

I usually paint my Epic miniatures on a black primer. This way I get the free black-lining when painting.

That really is great painting and converting. I wish that I had the patience to do this kind of work.

The old Codex Greys look very effective on the long bases.  Love the Ratling conversion idea too!

Thanks - this is just the kind of thing I was hoping to see, very nice work indeed! A couple of questions.

@Onyx. You say you sprayed them grey - what spray did you use? I've had mixed results with sprays some resisting subsequent layers of paint!

@Markconz. Tell me more about those greys (  realises how silly a thread about grey paint must look...)

And keep the pics coming. Anyone with brown/green guard? I could still be swayed as I await GWMO delivering my toys...

Codex Grey Base coat over bare metal, drybrushed with Fortress grey, drybrushed with Spacewolves grey. Just done quickly using a GW tank brush.  Metal painted black then Boltgun metal drybrushed, and then black ink wash.

Interesting to see the popularity of the Grey Guard.  elThyge, Onyx and myself are traditionalists... :)

To help paint wash over resistant surfaces you can use a (tiny) drop of dishwashing liquid mixed in with your paint and it will flow much more easily (the dishwashing liquid helps remove the surface tension of the paint).

I agree with you levinas, there are some great I.G. armies out there. Its so good to see them... very inspiring.

There can be only one - color that is!

I chose the color as a tribute to the old Imperial Guardsman, (I still remember the old 40K plastic-Guardsmen in plastic with sun-glasses and all).

Well, I must be a rebel of some sort, then. ?:D

A few pics of my Siegemasters. The colour scheme is Ogre Flesh basecoat, Chesnut Wash and successive drybrushes of Graveyard Earth, Kommando Khaki and Bleached Bone, with Catachan Green for the helmets ans such.
