There's a good idea - a Specialist Games weekend. Wonder if I can convince my FLGS to let me try and get this going, like one weekend every couple of months, and see what happens. Hmmm...

In the Chicago area, we have a core group of guys based out of the Chicago bunker who are trying to drum up more players for all the specialist games. There are 5 of us in the core group with some others that also play epic.  We're also trying to build up Warmaster and we're doing quite well in building up the BFG in the area.

lordgoober:  Welcome aboard!

Do you know Zzap?  He lived in Chicago up until about 2 years ago, when he moved to Nashville.  He played with a group that did a lot of BFG and Epic.  I've met and played with a few guys that have come down to visit.

I'll try to get some other names of Chicago Epic players next time I talk to him.

We have had a growing scene in Perth, being one of the most isolated cities in the world, from those who do play regularly posting Epic related content on painting, terrain and gaming on the local forums.  Once people know there are keen opponents so they will actually have someone to play generally people just need some kind of spark of an idea of some cool army to do, so the more photos people see the better.  I also think it is worth the effort to bring armies along and play games at clubs rather than at home because that gives all the people who have 6mm stuff lying around but haven't had the chance to play the opportunity to get in touch with you.

The Boston Battle Bunker had an Epic tournament a year or two ago, it's disappointing that they didn't continue with it. ?Or any other Battle Bunker for that matter.

The Oakville (Ontario) Battle Bunker used to have EPIC events, we'd get up to 16 players at times.

Then management changed, they got rid of the EPIC (and essentially all Specialist games) displays/products and sold off all the scenery... I haven't been back since.

And it was a serious blow to the greater EPIC community here.

I'm still playing, running games in my basement, but I don't have the space to set up a tournament.  Some local stores *do* have the space, but, since getting the product is next to impossible for them to stock, there's no incentive for them to run anything.

A vicious circle...

Like Mark Logue says, I think posting pics on local forums, and playing games at local  clubs whenever you can is a very important way of growing and maintaining your local scene.

We need to re-start a push for Epic gaming in the states! I'm going to try and talk my group into hosting a Tourny. Terrain may be an issue but space is not.

There's an additional thing to consider. If and when someone try to organize something, then ATTEND.
I've tried twice and people say they'll come. But at game day there's no one there. How fun is that?
It's not fun for me. It's no fun for someone else thinking of organizing. It's no fun for those that actually would like a game. And it's down to YOU to not let it happen.

It is a nice change to see that there were more tournaments this year within driving range for me than I could go to.  Epic is on the increase from my perspective.  IMO most of this is due to the internet and people getting connected better and more conveniently.

I'm not sure the size of the country is a big problem. Melbourne, Australia has a fairly large amount of Epic players. We're a pretty big country with a small population. We have 18 coming to Heavy Bolter this Saturday and that's only the ones who can make it.  I think it largely depends on your local gaming scene. If there's a lot of players who regularly play the game (Melbourne is lucky in that we have a very large gamng community) there will be more interest in a tournament.

From a TO's perspective, I think if you can swing pre-registration, you'll see less people ditching on the day as their hard earned cash gives them incentive to turn up.

As an aside, I was able to get a game in this weekend in a GW Store (the new Katy one) and not only did we get a lot of lookers, the store manager is now looking fielding some Orks he acquired recently, but more importantly, "Tau".

Its been my experience that when you play, that invariably, people will get interested and want to know more. Some of those will be interested in playing. When you also explain the cost benefits of Epic, it can be a real win.

I know it's a long way but,

Anyone thought about crossing the pond to play at an EPIC event in the UK?

I was thinking more of a holiday, to the UK, around the time of an EPIC tournament.

I've played in a couple of 'over seas' events (admittedly not quite as far as America) and they are great fun.

Thank you

Two of my sons (Wolves and Orks) and myself (along with the rest of the family) do plan on coming across at some point.

Admittedly, the primary purpose is to make the pilgrimmage to Forgeworld, pay our respects to Jervis and such, but it's not very likely that we'd be bringing 40K armies over as baggage...Epic, on the otherhand, would be quite feasible.

So, yes, I do plan on doing that, but it will probably be a couple of years from now.

@Volstagg: Will be PM'ing you.

Well, we have some tournaments in War Hammer World, Nottingham where Forgeworld can also be found; while many others take place in Mansfield, a small town some 10 miles north of Nottingham, so fairly easy access.

Check out the EPIC-UK website, or with Braveheart, Mephiston or other members of the EPIC-UK group.

But if you do make it, I suggest you may also need to book excess baggage before you fly home
