I'll have to hunt it up again, but knights were displayed in a force organisation chart, a couple house holds of them taking part in one of GWs campaigns only a few years ago.
As for them being unrealisticly developed on all those rural planets, they arent built on those planets they are built on forgeworlds and gifted to knight households in exchange for fealty, all Imperial technology is stc, or whatever they call it, so the exact same thing is copied repeatedly over and thruout the imperium, its no more ridiculous to believe all those forge worlds are making suits of knight armour for their knight/ agri worlds than it is to believe the thousand marine chapters are all equiped with rhinos and Land Raiders or that all the Imperial Titans made or maintained thruout the forge worlds are all based on the three basic models, warhound, reaver and warlord. Their all built off of ancient plans from back when mankind actually understood technology.

Anyway, it's more or less irrelevant whether the Knights developed the same on multiple worlds.  The design priority for E:A lists is for them to represent specific armies, rather than generic armies.  The Knights in the AMTL list represent those who owe fealty to the Forge World of the Legio Victorum specifically.

The idea that because something hasn't been mentioned recently means that it no longer belongs in the 40K universe is silly to me.  If it's a good idea, it can be reused when the appropriate time comes.  If it's a bad idea, it will seldom if ever appear again.

What fits better with Giant Robots: more Giant Robots, or Tanks?

Knights don't exist in the current background *at all*. They've been 100% written out of it (There's not a single mention of Knights / Households in any currently in print GW publication).

Not quite true; Codex Eye of Terror is still available from stores and online, and in it's force lists it has various Titan legions and 2 households: House Krast and House Arakon.

So knights do still exist in the current fluff.

That said, if there were any plans at all to revive them, I would have expected it to have happened in Apocalypse...
Regards,
Reaver

Anyway, they've been in the last three versions of Epic, if I recall correctly.  Seems silly to kill them off now.  I like 'em!

I agree.  It is GW's job to kill things off in a silly fashion.  It is ours to try to keep them around.

That's right.  We don't want another "Squats Incident!"

If some people think that Knights don't 'fit', then why not just write up the background for Knights again, this time emphasising a more oppressive and dark side of them rather than the 'let's use knights for jousting' side? Don't preclude such things happening, but keep the emphasis of it on the 'dark and gothic' side. After all, GW's said that old background is just as valid as new background, so I don't see what the problem is.

I do have a list done from way back when AMTL concept was being devised. It is just a concept, nowt pointed or anything.

Core concept was of a low tech pdf (so sub guard) infantry, think the old big infantry formations of yesteryear, pre WW1, some transport options in the form of soft skin trucks and flat beds, cavalry, armoured cars, basic tanks etc etc. Heavy weaponry could threaten knights so in short supply. Then topped off with the knights.

Was supposed to be a retro tech force based on feudal armies. The elite (knights), small amounts of retainers featuring AT heavy weaponry, unwashed masses with AP (heavy stubbers), all backed up with a smattering of low tech armour, transport and horses for courses.

Tis I think quite fun.

Skitari had two iterations - one as titan field support (base guards, objective holders etc) as seen currently, the other as an army centred around the super heavy tech we fight over. The Special Rule for the latter I tried a couple of times and was certainly different. It was that any super heavy with attached infantry counted as inspiring (whilst the infantry lived). As assault values were guardish it wasn't over powered, but led to crazy eyed charges!

This sounds like it's based on the old Knight background from WD126.  If there was to be a "pure knights" list, this sounds about right to me.

Yes it was indeed. Written by Andy Chambers as his first White Dwarf job I think.
