Hi Mates

Afew of me lads and meself are starting with Epic,,, but we have no idea what we need ,,, etc

we have one book "Epic Arrmaggedon",, but there are only Space mariens, Imperial and Orcs in it.

what about the other races, elder, Tau, Nekron, etc.

Do they each have diffrent books , are can we read a bit about them here somewhere in the site?

Is there a short "epic for dummies" referance sheet somewhere?

I got a few orcs pushed at me and , I do play Warmaster, (used to play WHFB etc) but I rather play Something else than orks,,, the Elder  have nice looking figs,,, but the Imperial do too,, are dwarfs still being offered? etc...

I am greatful for anything you may tell me,,

thank you
Cheers
Mike

Hi, and welcome to the game. You have come to the right place for info.

You have the core rule book. In addition, there was a single suppliment produced which covered Eldar, Imperial Guard Siege and 'Savage Orks' - called Swordwind.

All downloads which are official, including the book that you have, the Swordwiind suppliment, and current official versions of the lists are on the SG site:

http://www.specialist-games.com/epic/Vault.asp

And:

http://www.specialist-games.com/epic/rulebook.asp

We (Hena) has put together a page detailing all of the current force lists for Epic, on our wiki:

http://www.tacticalwargames.net/wiki....20Lists

Many of the force lists are still in developments - including Tyranids and the Tau - and we have official discussion for you to get involved in this process here - in the Epic HQ section.

Finally, there are a few main rules updates and FAQs, mostly on the SG site and forum. However, dont worry about all of this right now. Play with the rules you have, and find the force list that you are most interested.

If you have questions, feel free to ask them here.

All the best.

Hi and welcome to the boards.

Not all races have had official armylists done for them in Epic yet. However most are covered by WIP experimental rules that are well balanced.
Eldar, Feral Orks and Baran Siegemasters (an IG variant list) are covered in the Swordwind supplement which can also be downloaded from the Specialist-Games website.
Chaos and Lost and the Damned have also been officially released and can be found on the SG site.
The rest of the lists can be found on the SG site as well, but more updates versions can be found here, as this is the main site for playtesting these lists. If there's anything in particular you are looking for then I'm sure the appropriate Army Champions can point you in the right direction.

Both Orks and IG are considered good starter armies as they are very forgiving (And have great miniatures). Eldar have been reworked a bit since they've generally been considered a bit unbalanced.
Space Marines are not recommended as a starter army. They can be tricky to play, but once you've masterd them they're deadly as well.
Chaos is also a good army. However the only miniatures available from GW is the plastic infantry so the rest need to be scratch built or converted from Imperial vehicles (Most of the time Space Marine vehicle swith an appropriate paint job will do just fine).

The other races are currently unavailable from GW and thus need to be proxied; either by E-bay purchases or using models from other manufacturers (Exodus Wars and Dark Realm Miniatures are excellent for this).

As for Dwarfs (Or Squats as they used to be called) these were officially excluded from the 40k background by GW some years ago. However there's a number of fan lists available and the miniatures can be proxied by Exodus Wars Khazari.

This really can't be stressed enough

I wouldn't play the Marines under the Epic: Armageddon rules until you've had some more experience with the rules and how the game works.

Marines are a precise army that need to be deployed and used with precision or you'll get your butt handed to you

It still happens to me pretty regularly :-)

Are the Elder OK for a totasl beginner or should I gop with the Orcs? There seem to be many players with orks and marines,,, but for me it will be orks or Imperial, althpugh the Elder do have nice looking figs....

I'll take you advice Orks or Imperial..

Next question please, is there a short list for getting the basics down? I did see one ,, long long years ago,,, but I dont know if there is still a "epic short list for beginners" somewhewre,,, it would be of help if there is one,,, is there one or dose someone have a short rule lists forthem selves,,, for many of the GW gamers there is a "referance sheet" if there is one of those they are of help too

can you halp me on that one too mates?
thank you
Mike

I would stay away from Eldar until you get a better handle on the game.

A good way to learn E:A is to play the training scenarios in the core rulebook. They're helpful in learing the rules in bite-sized chunks.

Welcome aboard!

I would recommend Orcs.

They also have the benefit of having three official army lists for them (one is still in development) and the main army list is very flexible. You can play quite a few different types of armies with the list that is in the E:A rulebook.
