Well, the wife and I are heading home this afternoon, just kicking it large in the executive lounge of the airport (Thanks mom and dad!).

Logged in to the wireless and hoped to see some Tyranid 8.3 batreps... where are they hiding?

I hope to get some games in this week...

I'm trying to get my nids painted at the moment, so no games from me as yet

Sorry Chroma. I re-did the colours on them recently so I'm essentially starting from scratch.

I'm itching to give them a bash though.

How was the honeymoon?

Sorry Chroma, only had time for a single multiplayer game since you left and that was an Ork/Imperial affair due to players involved. Hoping to get another game in soon

There was a moment of panic when we got home and discovered my digital camera had somehow been damaged in the airport/on the plane just before we got home! I couldn't get any of our 142 pictures off the card... fortunately a friend of mine has a similar camera so we tried the memory card there and were able to retrieve all the pics! My camera is toast though... *sigh* I guess I know what I'm asking for my birthday tomorrow... *laugh*

Ahh they're still just one step up from undercoat Chroma. Same base brown/yellow you saw last time but I ditched the red and am going with a black, highlighted with a blue/grey.

I actually like the pics my dad made more then the formal photographer made at my wedding.

Back on topic and I hate to leave where this thread was going ?

I am going to be taking Tyranids to Open War 8 this weekend for three 3000pt games. Now I am currently not a fan of the nid war engines so to try and get over this I am taking the following list.

Hive Tyrant
Hive Tyrant
Hive Tyrant with wings
3 Tyranid Warriors
3 Tyranid Warriors
Harridan
27 x Termagants
4 x Hormagant
12 x Gargoyles
6 x Carnifex
4 x Haruspex
4 x Malefactor
4 x Trygon
Hierophant
1 x Lictors (3)

Basically I will be trying out the Hierophant, Harridan and Trygons for the first time. (note I have the models for these so want to use them)

Basic set up will be
Harridan & Trygons,
Hive Tyrant + Carnifexes,
Hive Tyrant + 2 Haruspex & 2 Malefactors,
Hive Tyrant + 2 Haruspex & 2 Malefactors,
T Warriors + Gaunts,
T Warriors + Gaunts,
Lictors &
Heirophant

With the gargolyes dotted about the place.

Now have i dropped any clangers or is this a workable list?

Glad to see some more Hive Tyrants around!

First off, what are your dissatisfactions with the Bug war engines? ?If you like, can you start a new thread about them?

These swarms look really small to me, I think they're going to get pasted pretty quickly, especially as the Tyrants are going to get assigned hits fairly often due to lack of depth in the formation.

While I used to avoid making "mixed" Swarms, recently I've been using a lot of mixed Nexus Group based swarms to anchor my Carnie/Malefactor/Haruspex broods and it seems to be working quite well. ?The infantry get portable cover with all the AVs around, and it gives more targets to put MW hits and such on... it took me a while to accept that, but it seems to be working well now that I've gotten the hang of it. ?I do tend to use more LVs than you've got in your army, so that makes a difference as well.

Is this just because you have the model or for some other purpose? ?In smaller "pure" AV swarms, I think the armour reduction may wind up stinging you.

Hi,

To answer some of your questions Tyrant with wings, is in to keep up with the Haruspex & Malefactors as the rush across the table. I will be bulking out the formations with gaunts but just wanted to show the main parts of the formations. That is except the Tyrant & fexes which will be able to garrison.

I don't like the WEs as once I have paid for the common & uncommon brood that I would normally play with (more Haruspex & Malefactors), the synapse creatures to control them, I have 500-600 pts left which normally get spent on Stealers & Lictors.
The only way I can consider playing with Trygons or Hierodules are if they are with a WE synapse & a Dominatrix is too expensive in my opinion to take in a 3000pt battle as it takes up almost half of your possible synapse points.
