Hello! :)

For the past two years about this time I get the urge to take on an ambitious Epic scratch-build. ?Two years ago I made an Inquisition Drop Fortress, last year I made a Chaos Titan (which went on to be a winner in EpiComp  )...

Well, this yera I'm taking on probably my most ambitious project yet. ?I'll be making a LARGE (for 6mm scale) Armoured building, which could represent a fortress or stronghold for most human armies in pretty much any 6mm sci-fi game. ?I'll be using it as a centre piece of a large, 9,500 point Iron Hands v Iron Warriors/Chaos Epic particpation game I'm running at the Launch Event of our wargaming facilities on September 15th. ?It'll be an Iron Hands Bastion on Medusa in this game. ?I've also made some modular defence lines, I'm designing this so that it will fit with those too.

So, I'll be using parts from many kits and ranges for this model - Necromunda Bulkheads that have been cut down, 40k Cities of Death parts, Platformer & Hexagon terrain parts; plus a good smattering of Epic, Exodus Wars and DRM bits - and maybe some BFG, too - to keep the finer details 6mm.

Here's where I am with it currently:

These are the long sides, central to this will be a slightly larger module, which will have two towers. ?The whole thing will be studded with defensive guns & missiles, plus a couple of larger Orbital Defence lasers.

These walls are made from 40k CoD balcony pieces (16 in total), and plasticard for the top. ?I'll be sticking Platformer terrain pieces on top to give them more detail. ?I've drilled some holes on top of some of the pillars where some of the defence weapons will go.

Today I'll start work on the centre structure. ?My apologies that I can't show you any concept art pictures... there are none: as usual, I am completely winging it, making it up out of my head as I go along :confuse: ?so expect some potential changes in direction if/when things don't go as I'd hoped... :p ?

Thanks for looking, more pictures later! :)

Wow, very ambitious Firestorm. I have one request: in future photos could you include an Epic mini so we can get a sense of its size?

Good idea DS. A stunt Rhino is ideal.
Nice work FS40K :) :) :)

Thanks lads! :D

DS + V - I'll get a comparison pic tomorrow.  None today, as there was little progress to show in terms of construction, but a fair amount of cutting plasticard and various model bits up.

My hand is now sore... :O

Thanks for looking, more pics tomorrow evening! :)

All you need to do is stick it on tracks to make an Inquisition Mobile Fortress :D

A couple of dozen old plastic rhinos should do the trick...

Erm, I think you might need a few more... :O :p

The structure is coming along, today I glued the two walls to the central 'spine', which is plasticard with a cut-down Necro Bulkhead either end.

As requested, I've taken a pic with Epic minis to give an idea of scale; also, although they're not glued down, I've added some of the defensive turrets (Exodus Wars bits FTW! :D ) and Hexagon bits to show how the details are.

The doors are glued on - the only problem with the CoD balcony parts is that, without cutting in to them, there's no openings on them (which I guess makes sense for balcony supports, doh! :p ).  So I cut down the top hatch of a Rhino to make two doors.  The plasticard strips either side represent where the heavy doors slide along.  I just need to do the same (or something similar) on the other side...  Anyway, I'm pleased with them, quite fortuitously they are the right size to suggest tanks can get through!

More pics to come in the next couple of days, as I continue to fortify the structure (no pun intended!), and begin adding details.

Thanks for looking!

Not before I've added more support to the Plasticard roof... it could lead to an unfortunate collapsing type incident... :;): :p :D

Thanks anyway, lads! :)

Just straight-forward, plain ol' plasticard.  It'll be blinged-up in due course... :;): :D

Work continues, I've made the two towers for it (only one is stuck down), and stuck some Hexagon parts on the side I put the doors on.

The two Rhino-hatches will be the mount for what will be Orbital Defnce Lasers   I'm also thinking of putting a Landing pad on top of one of the towers...

More pics over the weekend, thanks for looking! :)
