Wraithguard....

The original problems for the ERC revision process were threefold.

1. The numbers in the Specialist Games packs didn't match the numbers needed for formations, and so the number was originally changed to 2 Wraithguard per formation in the first revision process (this was also to help with problem number 2 below). However then eldar players complained that this would mess up their existing formations, so it was changed to 2-3 units to keep them happy...

2. Wraithguard were regarded as overpowered with Fearless, 4+RA and a lot of MW ability for just 50 points. The revision changed the armour to 3+, but lost the RA which helped a bit.

3. Three Wraithguard units plus guardians (and platforms sometimes also) makes quite a big tough but still relatively cheap formation, that can absorb a lot of punishment in a rather un-eldar like fashion. Especially with all the Wraithguard absorbing a lot of hits as a bulletshield for the guardians. A proposal to correct this problem and problem number 2 above was having each Wraithguard stand replacing a guardian, rather than simply adding to the formation. However this proposal was thrown out as being 'too big a change rather than a fixit solution'.

All of which leaves us with the current situation. The Wraithguard upgrade is 2-3 units rather than 3, and armour is 3+ rather than 4+ RA.

So what do people think, are Wraithguard ok now or should they be changed in some way? Vote and state your ideas.

How so? Surely that is what the Wraithguard are for? Taking punishment and allowing an Eldar formation to stick in and fight it out?

I think the stats represent what they do in 40k well, I vote no change.

I think it was the degree to which they were able to do this that was the problem, not the fact it happened.

Anyway it doesn't look like this will be changing...

The wraithguard can still be sat just behind 3 wraithlords in an assault and use the wraithlords armour - still a bit powerful.

especially if you go all out and tailor your army around these guys combined with gates.

Probably these two upgrades should be 200pts each (wraithlords and wraithguard).

Yme-loc your lone objection is noted :)  I think you may have a point about the relative power of these things and time will tell.

However, this has helped make up my mind on the issue for now. Thanks for the votes everyone. No change.
